Let Josh be Josh?

That's my analogy of Josh Allen. He arguably has one of the biggest arms in the league, but he rarely throws the deep ball.

We need to spread the WR's out and let JA THROW THE BALL!

AMIRIGHT ??

You should probably stop making analogies.

Agreed.  We had a perfectly capable game manager in Tryhard.  I liked watching Allen the back half of last year more than now.  Yes yes I understand he's 'making better decisions' or whatever the current excuse making track is, the cold hard reality is nobody (meaning other teams D coordinators) is worried about him in this offense.  The worst he can do to you is run for a first down, but he's not going to attempt any throw more than 10 yards, which is exactly what we all got so frustrated about with Tryhard

That is actually not true.

He is 9th in air yards per attempt and 21st in air yards per completion. So he is throwing them as much or more than most QB's in the league. But is also as bad at completing them as anybody in the league.

He is also 33rd in the league in differential between average attempt vs. average completion This is a wonky stat, where he ranks above Patty Mahommes. But other than Mahommes, he only beats out an injured Big Ben, an injured Mason Rudolph, Fitz, Kyle Allen, Darnold, and Rosen.

Are you willing to be intellectually consistent and make the same judgment call as to the can't miss prospects drafted ahead of Allen, in Darnold and Mayfield? "I see ghosts" Darnold's ongoing pick tracker notched another 3, to make 7 over his last 2 games for starters, going along nicely with 8 (not a typo), sacks taken yesterday alone...Mayfield's W-L record is the inverse of Josh's at 2-5, but hey, who's counting? Unless you are willing to call the entire 2018 QB draft class a bust at this point, minus Lamar who's playing lights out right now, then you are unfairly singling out Josh's coming of age roller coaster ride that we're on, and not taking into account all of the other variables in play, together with the aforementioned peer comparison points.

Light's out? Not so much. Yeah, he's running the ball well, but he's not so hot throwing the ball. Since the Miami game week one where everyone wanted to b***-wash him as the greatest QB in the NFL alongside Pat Mahomes, he's got 6 TD's and 5 INT's in the last 6 games. His completion percentage is also around 61% in that time. The difference is he is the best pure athlete out of any of the guys drafted last year and can run his arse off. He was 9-20 against Seattle in his last outing throwing the ball, but was running all over the place in that W. Ran all over Cincy as well the week before. Overall though he has only thrown 1 TD pass in his last 3 games.

Dabol would turn him into a pocket passer with 3 designed runs per game in an attempt to minimize long drives and scoring

For the Record also Josh Allen and the Bills currently sit at Tied for 12th in the league with "Explosive Pass Plays"

This might be an example of where you can make numbers say anything you want to, apropos of nothing.

Point taken as to a purely passing benchmark. And the W-L record at 5-2 is also the same, so yeah, how exactly is Josh playing any worse than his peers? And frankly I'd still rather have Josh than Darnold any day of the week and 2x on Sundays. Asking when we are going to "admit" that Josh is a bust is about the most hot take of hot takes being posted around here, imho.

He's not taking the top off the defense because he's not able to complete the deep ball with a running WR.  He's missing badly.

Well deep passes are defined as 25+ yards.  so using that proper definition there are his numbers

So i'll ask the dumb question, is that 25 yards in the air, or the 5 yard in the flat pass that Beasley takes for 30?  I'm straining a bit to recollect any completed passes that were in the air for 25 yards+ this year

25+ pass in the air, or total yards on a completion.   The two are obviously very different.

So some arbitrary definition of deep passing

The thing at issue is that if a D is worried about your deep passing attack, they can't stack 8 in the box every single play.  Josh Allen isn't making any D coordinators worried about that.  He will complete a couple per game that go for 25 yards but that's more the receiver getting YAC
