Bills rank 6th in one of the most important categories...

Net pass yards per play...

Basically the yards per pass per play minus sack yards for versus yards per pass per play against.

Bills are 6th at +1.2...this is considered one of the most important stats apparently for how good a team really is and has gone back quite a few years with regards to that correlation.

The Fins are on a record-breaking pace on that metric...

I was about to post the same.  It really shows how historically bad the Dolphins have built that team to be.  Conversely, we have to feel pretty good about where we are on this one.  Good metric, I haven't seen it before!

So the Bills are one of three teams (along with SF and NE) to allow less than 5 yards by the other team.  The Bills are sixth overall despite one of the lowest figures for an offense.

Since we're all assuming the defense will keep playing at a high level, and the offense will improve through the season, this is really reason for optimism.

And that low number is due to turnovers. Josh plays smarter and we go up up up.

It says it's better if this metric is built on a solid base of offense.

Buffalo's is the opposite. Built on a solid base of defense.

Denver at #9. Sleeper?

Rams, Ravens, and Colts all in the 20s. Pretenders?

Bills move the ball on offense...they are 10th in the NFL in total offense...

The games and the pressure is going to get harder soon. If they manage to win the next three then I feel this team is a legit SB contender.

Good find Matter, thanks. Interesting stats. Confirms, we all know the D is great, but get rid of the turnovers and this Offense is legit.

Explains why the first two made those trades?

Buffalo's offense is not that far away from being a pretty good one.  What people don't realize is that this team moves the ball better than 67% of the teams in this league, they convert at a high rate once they get to the end zone, they have a balanced attack which is crucial, they can score when it matters and they eat the clock.

Buffalo's problem right now is that Josh has made a few too many turnovers and their offensive awareness once they get in between the opponents 30-40 yard line has been bad.  There must be close to 10 times so far this year where we got in between the opponent's 30-40 yard line where they came away with no points.

It is not as if we are talking about a team that cant move the ball or a team that is one dimensional and is racking up garbage yards or a team that cant punch it in from the red zone.   Buffalo's offensive issues just need slight tweaking.  This offense is very close to becoming a decent one.

I don't think that is true.  It doesn't seem to account for an int any different than an incompletion.  Also, no mention of lost fumbles during a pass play.  Those are pretty big game events to ignore, usually much more than sack yardage.  I agree, the last sentence will be true.  The Bills are very likely to see their average yards per attempt go up.  Hitting on some deeper pass plays would be a big help and getting Foster on the field is one reason to think it will happen.

Allen needs more options in a passing game Beasley and Brown is basically all he has had to work with , we need another WR and a TE that he could rely on that could get open and more importantly CATCH the ball , hopefully Duke and Croft can provide that ,

It's thread titles like this which are becoming synonymous with click bait "news stories."  There is no benefit to TBD'ers aside from the OP getting views.

Just put the stat (or EDIT: subject) in the thread title or description.

I definitely believe this. I expect them to start collecting some wins, and by the time their matchup with Buffalo rolls around, it won't seem so easy any longer. That defense under Fangio is starting to fire on all cylinders. They're not as bad as their record says they are.

Conversely, as you mention right below that, I don't think the Rams, Ravens, or Colts are as good as their records say they are.

You're right.

They're 20th in yards per pass attempt.

10th in yards per rush attempt

Bills rank 2nd in the AFC in the Win-Loss Column - To me that is the most important category:)

Yeah, but the whole point of this is to predict if they'll keep that up...

If the defense keeps playing like it is and the offense keeps moving the ball the way it is, they'll be okay.

However, the analysts behind this metric think a good defense is less reliable. It would be better if the offense was the stronger unit.
