Revisiting Beane's most subtly brilliant move as GM

Those were great and he's done a lot of great things, IMO.  But getting Taylor out of Orchard Park made me giddy.  Getting a 3rd round pick for such a crappy QB was magical.  The moment I saw the alert pop up my phone was the happiest I've felt as a Bills fan in 20+ years.

I haven't seen such hatred since Will Scarlett had a thing for his half brother. Tyrod is not a QB you win the SB with, but have you explored the possibility that the Bills might still be undefeated this year due to a managed offense and superior defense? Don't get me wrong, Josh Allen is THE Bills QB but the hate in you is strong, Gugny.

Recently was a thread Beane was seen at college football match. It means he goes personally to scout college talents. I like it.

Buddy Nix did the same thing except he slept at the games and the stadium clean-up crews had to wake him up & tell him to leave.  Whaley tried the same thing, but would end up staying in the hotel room watching the porn channel instead of going to the game.

Yup all these trades where he got something for nothing and if he gets something for Zay we need to build it ;)

There's teams out there that aren't super happy about their WR depth charts.  Philly, New Orleans, Oakland come to mind.  The nice thing is he's under contract next year too so its sort of an investment in a young player, and less a rental.

Hate?  I have nothing but love.  Love for Beane getting Tyrod the hell out of here and getting a 3rd round pick!  LOVE!!!!

We lost to the best team in football/defending Super Bowl champs.  Did Allen suck in that game?  Yes.  It was his 15th start and against the best defense in the NFL.

So, no ... I haven't explored that possibility.  Frankly, I'd rather explore Roseanne Barr's anus.

The last time the Bills got a player for a player that appeared to be each team dumping a guy neither team wanted and it worked out was the Jerry Hughes trade.  It was about the only significant thing that the Nix/Whaley team did right with long term success.

Trade Kiko for Shady was a lucky move too.

But trade  1st round for climbing several spots up to get Sammy Watkins was a disaster. Evans (TB) and OBJ were on the same draft without trading up. And many thought that moveup  was for Khalil Mack, but no ((

While I agree with the move regarding TT and was also thrilled with the pick we received, I for one would rather be Tom Brady's valet than retrace steps that Tom Arnold has taken.

To me, long term, Bates is a center. He has very short arms and I don't think he has a chance to hold up long term at tackle. He did a great job filling in for an emergency situation, but I do think he would be exposed if he played there full time. I do like him though, and I could see him taking over for Morse in a couple of years.

While there are other more high profile moves, I'd like make a shout out to an under-the-radar move that shows how good Beane really is.  The trade for Ryan Bates.

I can't recall another example of a team trading and established NFL player for an UDFA rookie and scoring the win in that trade.  Eli Harold was an established NFL player.  Not a star, but certainly established and still young.  He wasn't going to make the team and as players like Darryl Johnson were stepping up.  Beane not only pulled off the trading of an asset that was going to be cut, but targeted a rookie who nobody else knew.  Bates demonstrates his value, makes the team, offers position flexibility and yesterday was a key part of our 4th quarter victory.

I don't know what Bates will eventually turn into, but it kind of reminds me of when Polian snagged Steve Tasker, a guy nobody knew at the time, as Houston tried to sneak him through waivers to bring back from IR.

Did Eli Harold even make the Eagles squad?

The trade for Cleveland's WR with little time to evaluate was very questionable.

I think Beane has great college scouts and low to middling proplayer scouts.  We have had some big whiffs on free agents, and that can't continue if we want to sustain long term success.

Yeah you’re probably right.  I don’t see him as a long term RT.

You say what you want about Tyrod and you're not wrong.  But lets not forget that man was the QB that took us to the playoffs.  For better or worse

He was the QB on the team that went to the playoffs.  He didn't take that team anywhere.  Bills won 9 games in spite of him; not because of him.

Evans would have required a trade up. He was the guy I wanted badly in that draft. He went to Tampa at 8. I think we were sat at 10 if memory serves.

Completely agree, nothing I hate more than a scared qb playing not to lose.  But I see him everytime I think of my greatest moment as a fan.  We're moving in the right direction for sure
