Those are default clauses, not “no guaanteed money”

Id normally agree but some of those stretch far enough that you may call them performance bonuses and not simply default language. It doesn’t take egregious behavior to void the money if a missed practice can void everything. Many contracts have no voiding language, it’s not uncommon to see arrest/suspension as the threshold though. To see any absences void it is to my knowledge incredibly rare. Given browns mindset that’s perilously close to non guaranteed and I think most agents would tell their clients such.

the guaranteed signing bonus being split across 2 years based on 85% participation is not up front cash in hand, it’s a work out bonus, for instance, to cover some of the mischaracterizations of the deal

Don't need to.  I clearly remember saying "the Bills dodged a bullet" when his feet problem popped up and you snarkily replied "yeah, who would want a gun with bullets."

Well that’s a true proposition.

his greatness can’t be denied.  And I said the bills would take him because of his skill, obviously.  But my input to that discussion was that if the Bills didn’t have an interest it was because he quit on the Steelers, not because he banged Poyers future wife, like you and a few goofballs were insisting

SI article

bottom line seems to be fines are explicitly spelled out and suspensions allowed by CBA, and Browns contract voids guarantees in case of missing team activities & suspensions

They also point out what a long drawn out mess going there could be

They still tried to trade for him.  It absolutely blows my mind with all the talk about culture.  And if he would have said ok, he’d be here doing the same crap.

But yeah, bullet dodged.

Some of you are obsessed with this guy.  Again, the GM who some of you think is a god tried to get AB, so he thought the same thing.

i never thought they had any real interest. one of those things were you have to pick up the phone regardless.

couple minutes into the convo Beanes likely said " hold on, i have a call on another line i just have to pick up " and hung up.

 telling his boys

wtf is that guy on ?

Well why did they trade for the idiot in the first plAce?  It’s like they hooked up with a girl you know has a std and are surprised they got burned.  It’s his own fault.

Ticket sales obviously

Is R. Brandon working there undercover ?

How do you know about his work ethic? There have been many reports that he missed team meetings,  late for practice....skipping practice....

Not many 6th rd draft picks  lead the league in anything. Starting out his career as a return specialist and a #3 receiver on offense and then becoming a #1 WR. Throw in the facts that since he came into the league, he has had over 100 catches in 4 of his 9 yrs as a pro. That is more production than anyone could expect from a 6th rounder. You don't get that production or consistency without working tirelessly at your craft. At some point he put his heart into it.

Great memory there.  I never used him banging Poyer's wife as a/the reason I didn't want him (remember me saying that if AB could play with Burfict...?).  I only cared about him quitting on a premier franchise like the Steelers and what he would/could pull in Buffalo and his odd behavior.  And I was dead-on.

So where do you remember me saying they should have traded for him?

Like I said, I remember the "who wants a gun with bullets."  Then there were the comments about him missing training camp would mean nothing.

All true at the time but beside the point.  In comparison, the Bills have nobody at WR.

But that being said, at the time I said Beane was absolutely interested and we all know now this is true.  I never lamented the fact that the Bills didn’t get him. I was mocking the ridiculous notion that Beane wouldn’t be interested in having him in the roster.

Pretty simple

...three possible scenarios IMO.....

1. Mayock wants to suspend him and Chuckie & Davis stay out of the way-Mayock earns chunk of respect as "in charge "GM"

2. Mayock wants to suspend him, but Chuckie & Davis overrule him as AB stays; Mayock stays on as GM-zero respect as a puppet GM

3. Mayock wants to suspend him, but Chuckie & Davis overrule him as AB stays; Mayock immediately resigns as GM-earns chunk of respect as principled

....just a thought.....

4. AB returns to Raiders complex and goes postal on Mayock.

I really hope the Raiders cut him and find a way to recoup some of that bonus.

I just honestly don’t think he wants to play any more.

I would tell him to to clean out his locker and seek professional help.

You gotta wonder whether Mayock mishandled this. You’re dealing with a real problem player and you finally got him back to a somewhat stable state to start the season. And now is the time you send him a letter with the chump change of fines?

He had to have known this letter would possibly set off AB. Bad timing.

Yes it was completely expected he would not be rational and say "Yes you are right. I need to be a professional if I want to be paid as professional."

Bills did OK with T.O. but I think AB is a bigger head case.

TO was a complete professional when he played for Bills.

Again, in no way am I excusing AB's crazy behavior, just saying when you trade valuable assets and invest big money into a personality like AB, then you better understand how to best manage it and work with him to minimize these types of incidents.  Mayock I think took a risky approach and its not working out.

Mandatory psychological consoling sessions as part of incentive clauses in contract?

Whilst avoiding being productive at work, YE OLE has taken time to ponder this fiasco at great length today. While this whole brouhaha has become the source of many punch lines today, there seems to be a scenario here where Antonio is genuinely suffering from a serious condition as displayed through his increasingly unusual behavior.

Some have even speculated it may date back to the Burfict cheap shot a few years ago. It’s definitely been entertaining to see how this dumpster fire is going to end up for the Raiders, but hopefully Antonio gets the help he needs if he’s truly gone this far off the rails.

They haven’t paid him any money yet! It’s an unbelievable structure if pft got it right.

Karma for picking the jets this week ?

 ?

So it was pre-karma!? I hadn't even picked the Jets yet at that point lol

I hope the Bills thrash them, but considering the Jets-Slayer Matt Barkley is on the bench, I think the Bills are going to lose a close one.
