It was common sense that you can’t pay him top 5 money for anything but elite production. Especially with a stable of serviceable players. He was the entire offense for most of his time here. It's a tough business. It is a surprise that they did so without trying to get him to take a pay cut. Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the release of McCoy came “out of left field,” with no attempt by the team to get him to take less money. No surprise. McCoy's best years were behind him and the Bills had plenty of guys who are just getting started. If we had a poor draft and FA period then most assuredly Shady would have a roster spot on opening day.
