nero1 Posted August 28, 2019 Share Posted August 28, 2019 In years past starters would play for three quarters actually trying to simulate an actual season game. There was game planning, potential starters at each position, and an actual attempt to win the game. IMHO, not so anymore. After watching many games this week, I have come to the conclusion there is no more emphasis on this preseason game than any other. Starters go for maybe an entire half. Some players are being thrown in for the fist time, just to get reps. And as always players who are not going to make it get tape, hopefully to entice another team to pick them up. Dress rehearsals are supposed to be for perfecting performance for the actual event, not for still trying to figure out who will play, and who needs to see action. Don Otreply Posted August 28, 2019 Share Posted August 28, 2019 (edited) It used to be, and still is in some instances, now a days it’s importants is in evaluation of technics and schemes, as well as individual performance of the players. There are some who feel preseason games are not practice or of any importants, but they are wrong, though they try through a disjointed thought process to validate their opinions, they are still wrong. ? mjt328 Posted August 28, 2019 Share Posted August 28, 2019 Every coach is different. Some want to use Game 3 to shake the rust off, and have no problem giving starters significant time. Some just want to get through the Preseason without injuries, and keep their key players on the bench. Watching our strategy (on offense in particular), it was clear that Sean McDermott uses each game to practice a different aspect of the scheme. For instance, Game 1 saw the offense working almost exclusively on downfield routes. In Game 2, we switched to mostly short/high efficiency passes.
