Ahh been there. Just not behind a check THAT big. Usually we do it for a round of drinks or a meal between 6-8 ppl. Great to win, sucks to lose

I only did this once, on a $450 tab and I had to pay. Pretty sure I was set up. That was my first and last attempt at credit card roulette.

Winning would be nice, losing would SUCK!  I guess it’s just my nature and why I don’t gamble. We go out with several couples at a time, and everybody just throws a card in and let them do the math. Split it 3 or 4 ways evenly.  If it was people who said “he had an appetizer, and she had an extra glass of wine”, I would never go out with them again. But I know those people are out there.

I have a couple friends that I swear would count out how many chips each person had in an order of nachos for the group.

Its exhausting.

I’ve never done this, and doubt I ever would, but out of curiosity- does the roulette happen before or after the meal? I assume after is the only way, as the risk keeps people from going crazy with their orders...

The way they showed it was after and I have to think that's standard procedure.

I’m just not that patient. I’d have to move on. Maybe that explains why I have so few friends?

One of our favorite families from Florida is the perfect case. It doesn’t matter who has more kids with them that night, he doesn’t drink at all (but he’s a HUGE dude and knocks down an appetizer or two before his meal), who has dessert. It’s just so comfortable....sometimes you come out ahead, sometimes not, but we ALL have a blast and just throw a card in the middle and split the check. That’s the best word....comfortable. Life’s too short for drink and appetizer math.

We went on vacation once with a few couples - it was St Maarten and the one dude’s family  owned a condo there so it was nice that they let us stay there, which we did pay for.. But his wife was crazy about counting what everyone ate and charging us for it at the end of the week. She went out every day and bought stuff (her decision) and put out food like baguettes, cheese, croissants.. and then handed us each a bill at the end if anyone took a bite. Weird.

110% agreed.

if I come in $10 over budget for a great meal with friends, I’m calling the night a win. I’m paying for an experience not a beer in the most cliche terms.

If I spend to the penny my consumption but have to waste 20 minutes with pen paper and calculator that’s a disappointing situation.

I would pay, but I would NEVER forget. Just not our style. Yep, that’s weird indeed.
