Would be an IR to return candidate I am guessing. Unless the Groin is worse than initially thought.

Assuming he can return by week 10 at full strength this is not that bad. I would perfer to have him for the stretch run as opposed to him playing early and hurt later.

It doesn't matter anymore.  Any 2 players on IR can return to the roster.

Apparently this only applies to players on the 53 man roster week 1 of the regular season, I assume to prevent player stashings. If correct, season is over for Gaines.

With cornerback EJ Gaines on IR with a groin injury, Brandon Beane and Sean McDermott turn to some help.

Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network is reporting that Captain Munnerlyn is signing with the Bills.

In ten seasons with the Panthers and Vikings, Captain posted 529 tackles, 10.5 sacks and 12 interceptions.

As Garafolo said, the 31 year old Munnerlyn will bring stability and experience to the Bills secondary.

looks like you are correct, thanks

One constraint here is that a player must be on the 53-man roster in Week 1 to be eligible for the IR designation to return. That means, anyone who was placed on IR before roster cuts were made to trim the roster down to 53 players is not eligible.

This could be a blessing in disguise.  It frees up roster space(Pitts makes team?).  We don't need to cut a CB who would instantly be signed by another team. And it is a CB in bank for playoff run

Why would that matter?  Especially with Gaines.

Maybe he's trying to find a silver lining??? IDK, it is an odd comment.

This is a "problem" that good teams have, and right now, it looks like there may be a few players on the Bills that will be in a different uniform in 3 weeks, although mainly in backup roles. It doesn't matter, really, other than the fact that watching a player cut from the Bills flourishing on another team can be a bit annoying.

In that case looks like a path to injury settlement

Gaines is a really good player but this is a good decision because there are to many good players on this team now to hold a roster spot & a maybe !!
