10 Personnel... simply due to lack of TEs or a thing?

Well that would explain invisibility of TE. Are they just trying to get more looks at WRs? Maybe spots 3 and 4 aren’t as written in stone as some think. Or maybe the plan was to practice that formation.

^^ This.  It's what per-season is for.  Get guys on film in games.

Interesting ...

Why not?  Our 3rd and 4th WR's are likely much better than most teams 3rd and 4th corners.  When you don't necessarily have a true #1 but lots of depth at the position, take advantage of the mismatches you can create with it...I wouldn't mind seeing 00 personnel and forcing teams to cover our 5th WR with their 5th CB...

It could be a thing as New England was notorious for stretching the field horizontally. Yet injuries to the TE definitely dictate some of it.

Good take. It’s also the base design of the Air Raid. Make the DBs decide where the throw will go. They have to commit eventually* with every route, which exposes what they’ll leave uncovered.

*Eventually -as in 1.31 seconds.

Air Raid, yep.  This was what we essentially went to the 2nd half of last season.

3rd 4th and 5th WR are good.

Our TE situation is.....questionable for now.

QB can throw the deep ball.

WRs can fly.

When D plays man vs 4 and 5 wide sets Josh is going to have opportunities to run for 10 plus yards a pop.

Typically this also simplifies the defense and the read for a QB since they are mostly going to be in man to man

There is too much being read into this.  The Bills are evaluating personnel.

Maybe, but I like this set for Josh Allen.  If teams want to spy him, good luck when all our RBs can come out of the backfield and catch, with 4 WRs flooding the field.

Our 3rd receiver is not good and he’s injured. Don’t know why ppl are saying we could have a mismatch there.

Zay’s issues are justifiably discussed to death but Foster and McKenzie are strong #4/5 WRs.

This is absolutely going to be a thing for Buffalo.

Now, more often, when they come out in empty sets, I expect it to be 21 or 22 personnel. Like the Pats, the Bills want to force the defense to come out in base, then spread the field and make things difficult on the linebackers.

HOWEVER, they DID run a lot of full on 10 personnel toward the end of last season, and it often allowed Allen to do a lot of damage. If the defense plays zone, Allen likes those odds. If they play man, it likely gives him a great opportunity to run the football, as all the defenders have their backs turned to him.

Brian Daboll is an excellent playcaller and uses tons of modern concepts and personnel groupings. As much as anyone in the league, I'd say. He may not have been known as a very cutting-edge guy in his previous stops, but his second stint with New England and his time with 'Bama appears to have done him a world of good. I'm so, so happy we have him.

Except, of course, for the fact that they began running at during the regular season LAST year, as well.

IIRC we used to run this a lot with Coach Gailey. Even on 3rd and 1.   Didn't work out so well.  We had our 2 best offenses in the last 20 years in 2015/2016 (top 10 in league) doing something different.

One thing is for certain. Whatever we did last night and the next 3 games is NOT what we will be running in the regular season.
