The Real Buffalo Joe

Which "Bubble" guys will you be watching in the pre-season?

Sweeney and Ray Ray are my two watches for sure.  Seems like word from camp has Ray Ray taking the final roster spot as the backup slot receiver to beasley.  Both Ray Ray and McKenzie had their fair share of mental lapses and drops last year so that'll probably be a good battle.  Also Levi and Kevin Johnson is something I want to keep an eye on.  Seems like Levi has been holding down the CB2 position.

Levi Wallace has a pretty good hold on the CB1 position.

I definately want to see what Duke Williams does. I know the other WRs are doing really well--can I dare say, we actually have depth at that position now. But, WIlliams brings an element lacking from the rest of the group, size and strength. I think having the option of someone like him helps the team in the long run.

l am rooting for Duke Williams - because l feel we need a big WR , but he may be better playing more with Barkley or Tyree...

So Duke Williams may have higher numbers at the end of the game, because of his connections with QB2/3, - but if Allen has better chemistry with one over the other-could see them instead keeping RayRay on the teamteam.

What's the deal with Vosean Joseph? How is he doing...not hearing much.

That means "not much". However, he seems like a player that would make more noise when they go full tilt with hitting.

Sweeney for me....although I dont think there is a chance in hell he gets cut now.....they found another gem

I thought I read somewhere that he had the best hands in the draft. Maybe in a post draft video.

That's a good point. Several members here have mixed reviews of Joseph. The best case scenario would have Joseph on special teams gradually working his way in to the line up...depending of course on his performance.

Duke Williams seems to be the latest in a long string of WRs that a lot of people are fascinated/intrigued by and significantly over value during training camp but really have little or no chance of making the team or really amounting to anything in the league. A partial list:

Brandon Reilly

Dez Lewis

Kolby Listenbee

And of course the all time favorite Da'Rick Rodgers

Ray Ray is a nice story if he sticks and the WRs are an improved group for sure, but if Duke can't come close to beating out guys like Ray Ray, Isiah McKenzie (who probably won't make it but looks like he's ahead of Duke right now) then it's no great loss and he probably has marginal value as a practice squad guy.

If we keep 6 WR, as of today the #6 would go to McCloud by default since he's a draft pick of this regime and is showing well so far in camp by all accounts.

But I'd still keep Duke Williams over him if he looks good in preseason because he's a completely different player than McCloud who can argue is just more of the same (i.e. Smurf speedy type) that McD has talked about.

I would like to see Kevin Johnson progress. Hopefully he remains injury free. Corey Thompson seems intriguing...he did start a game last year.

Josh Allen.  Still not sold.

😉

but definitely Tyree Jackson.  I don’t think he’s had a good camp but I saw a guy who looked like a NFL qb in college.  I’d love for him to show something (but I guess not too much if we are trying to hide him on the practice squad).

Knox and Sills are the guys I am intrigued to see... though I suspect Knox will be limited if he even plays.

I'm really interested to see Ray Ray.  I thought after all our signings....he's not making the team.

Now I think he's making it but not a lock.  McDermott has praised him to the public.

...interesting...from what I've read, Ray-Ray is rising and Foster is meh.....

Honestly, there are very few bubble guys on this roster.  The roster is more or less set, excluding future injuries.

QB - Allen, Barkley (2)

RB - McCoy, Gore, Singletary (3)

FB - DiMarco (1)

OL - Dawkins, Spain, Morse, Ford, Nysekhe, Long, Feliciano, Bodine, McDermott (9)

WR - Brown, Beasley, Jones, Foster, Roberts, McCloud (6)

TE - Kroft, Knox, Smith, Sweeney (4) (Croom may make it is Kroft starts on PUP).

DE - Murphy, Hughes, Lawson, Love (4)

DT - Lotulelei, Oliver, Phillips, Phillips (4)

LB - Milano, Edmunds, Alexander, Thompson, Alexander, Stanford (6)

Safety - Poyer, Hyde, Coleman, Marlowe, Neal (5)

CB - White, Wallace, Gaines, Johnson, Johnson, Pitts (6)

ST - Hauschka, Bojorquez, Ferguson (3)

I think the only real bubbles out there right now are Jaquan Johnson and Vosean Joseph.  It will be interesting to see if someone can beat out Pitts, but this staff seems to like him.

Not necessarily "bubble" players, but I want to see the WR group, the OL, and the rookies.

Valid point,  still hope he hangs on though,

Go  Bills!!!

Why??  Williams was a nice story, people got all excited over him. But reality is once training camp started and he's going up against other NFL caliper players, it shows why he has been in the CFL.  There appears to be other more talented options on the Bills roster.

Granted he had many off field and maturity issues going on that may have contributed to him not being in the league.  But guys like Dez Byrant or even E Elliott (Hmmm....pattern here) are/were in the league for a reason.  They had the talent so you over looked the nonsense part of their lives and put up with them.  Guys with the talent level of Duke Williams instead got cut.

Maybe in the pre-season games his talent will shine through, but will be somewhat surprised if he even gets much chance other than game #4

Ray Ray does nothing for me. Hoping Duke and Sweeney get a shot. I think Carter will beat out Bojo. Joseph will contribute on ST and eventually be a backup LB.

The WR battle seems to be the most interesting, but I think for guys that will actually get some legit playing time and make a difference, it's the O-line.  The line between being cut and being a situational starter is pretty fine.  Teller is one that falls into that category for me.
