Mitch Morse in concussion protocol

Obviously he'll be released from protocol soon.  The red jersey will remain on him until the Jets game. The problem is with Mitch we're all walking on egg shells. Other teams know one good slap to the helmet might retire him.  If anyone in the NFL deserves a special "Kelso" helmet its Morse, not AB. He's not playing a full season, in fact if he plays 8 games it will be a miracle.

This is where I’m at.  Any more than 8 games from Morse and I’m happy.   Just assuming our line is:

Dawkins - Spain - Feliciano - Long - Ford

...until I see otherwise.

Good news is that Feliciano looks pretty decent at C.

Will you be concerned when (not if) Morse gets his next concussion and is out for six weeks?

I wonder if the NFL will let him wear the red jersey for regular season games.

Was joking with my brother I’d put the over/under on Morse at 5 games.

Sorry man, I have -way- more important things to be concerned about.

If he ends up with another concussion and retires, then he retires.

Nothing I or anyone else here can do about it.

That's fine, I also have more important things to deal with.  Just as long as you realize Morse retiring after another concussion is a real possibility.

Yup.  I'm not counting on Mitch Morse to help this football team win games, and neither should anyone else.  It seems to me to be a foregone conclusion he'll be sidelined again, sooner rather than later.

Chalk this one up to taking a risk that probably won't pan out.  I'm just glad Beane got other guys in like Feliciano, Long, and now Bates who have gotten a lot of reps at C during camp.

You do your due diligence, make the best decision you think you can, and cover your bases as best you can.  Not much else you can do.

I get it and I agree but imagine if Whaley did this?

So, same with Cole Beasley.

They did the best this could with what’s out there and have plan B, C and if they have to D.  D by the way is The guy who we plan A last year... so there is that.

calcilated risk taking is part of the process.

His injury history:

  • 2015: concussion Week 12, missed one game
  • 2015: concussion Week 17, missed playoffs
  • 2017: foot sprain Week 2, missed 5 games
  • 2017: re-aggravation foot sprain in Week 13, placed on IR, missed 5 games
  • 2018: concussion Week 6, missed 5 games

Everyone and I mean everyone (including their dog) is worried about Mitch's condition.

I'm still holding on to the slim chance that they considered keeping him out of serious contact play until the start of the season as a precaution.

My only flimsy evidence is, they went ahead and took care of the core muscle maintenance and then as soon as the pads come on.............well it seems

that next week after preseason game #3 he will (just in time) start taking snaps with Josh full time to begin the season.

I know it's a long shot but I have thought of the possibility.
