Melvin Gordon will hold out and demand a trade from LAC without a new contract

Recommended Posts

Eh, hes had one season where he has averaged over 4.0 ypc. He also seems to be injured often. Out of 64 possible games he has started 52, that's  81% and that's not accounting for the games he started but left early or limited carries because he was nursing an injury. The chargers will stand their ground as they should.

I really don't see ANY consistently great NFL franchises paying big money to running backs these days.

Pittsburgh was before back decided he would rather not play for a year under tag but maybe you do not think $14M is big money.

Hip and knee at same time,  really should be one line.  Still a lot better than Lammy and he got $18M.

According to overthecap.com Gordon will make a little over 16 mil. after this upcoming season. The franchise # for rb is around 11.2 mil. this year. If I'm Gordon, I play next year under the franchise tag and then retire. 27 million over 6 yrs as a RB and then walk away while you can. That's just me.

There's less than a handful of consistently great franchises and they all have stud QBs.

The Rams without Gurley, for example, are a borderline playoff team as opposed to a Super Bowl contender.  Great backs are still great backs.

...true....so far.....his suspect health will define as to whether they will be "beyond borderline"......running games hope to have a "featured back" to carry the load.....Larry Johnson, Jamal Anderson, Demarco Murray  etc were all burned up with "the load", approaching 400 carries......then again, we have Frank "The Tank" Gore, still a ripped beast at 36....OR...who saw AD after an ACL tear make a remarkable recovery, signing with Deadskins last year for vet minimum and logging 1,024 yards?...NOT ME....

Well then backs need to stop saying they get better (more likely to reach incentive clauses) when they have more touches.

Gurley took the last 2 games of the season off.  Then they beat up the Cowboys, got a gift in the NO game (but still held them to only 2 TDs).  In the SB,  McVay got abused.

They weren't a "borderline playoff team"--even with no production form Gurley in the playoffs.

The Chargers should look to Gurley's situation last year.  He was used up and burnt out.  Pay these heavy duty backs at your own peril...

He's not going to get Bell money, though.

Bell should not have gotten Bell money.  The Bills stand out as a team that put way too much emphasis on RBS’s in the draft and trades.  It’s probably why you have to do when you don’t have to do when you do not have a franchise QB.

Under McBeane that is simply not true unless you think one 3rd round draft pick (and no trades) is “way too much emphasis.”

I meant over the past  several regimes.

I figured, but I don’t like shackling McBeane with the decisions of former GMs and coaches because it’s clear they are doing things differently.

Thanks to Leveon & AB there will now be a rash of this kind of thing hitting the NFL as if they don't make enough money as it is !!

Levon wound up screwing him self though from a conversation i heard, the Steelers actual contract would have paid him more than what he agree'd to with the Jets but his greed won out to screw him in the long run!!

I hope the owners don't start caving to these kind of tactics & find a way to make them first honor their contracts that they signed initially !! Or just let them sit with out getting paid at all & see how that goes over !!

I seem to remember the a very classy MJ saying before one of his first contracts was up in Chi town that he "would honor the contract that he signed because he did agree to the terms in that contract" but then he went on to say something to the effect of - but watch out for my next contract because then i will get paid . But those days of honoring what you sign are long gone ...

Has ZERO Leverage.  He has to play this year (by at least week 10) and then looking down the barrel of two Franchise Tags

That’s why this can’t be compared to the Bell situation. When he threatened to sit out, he was not under contract. Gordon is.
