Melvin Ingram lays down Super Bowl guarantee

Recommended Posts

Running back Melvin Gordon called the Chargers “

the team to beat” this year and defensive end Melvin Ingram shares that belief. He said last week that the team is “definitely going to win the Super Bowl” before echoing his teammate’s read on the team’s spot in the league.

“We’re the team to beat in the NFL, not just the AFC West, it’s the NFL,” Ingram said, via the Los Angeles Times. “We feel like when we’re going against our offense that we need to beat them because they’re the best. They need to beat us because we’re the best. That’s how we’re going to get better.”

Head coach Anthony Lynn said that “most players feel that way” about their teams, but he’s not fond of doing so and added that he considers the Patriots the team to beat because they won the Super Bowl in February. The Chargers couldn’t do that last January and the last two decades of data suggest they’ll probably have to do it this time around to prove Ingram correct.

Anthony Lynn is a good coach. The Chargers are a good team. Guarantees at this point are stupid. KC should have made the SB last year if not for an Offside penalty. You still have NE. He needs to not get ahead of himself, especially since it's June.

The reality of seeing the great Tyrod Taylor wearing your team's uniform does that to players.  One look at Tyrod and all he can think is CHAMPIONSHIP!

You know he does have a ring right?  I wasn’t even the biggest Taylor fan but I hate this petty garbage.

And its pretty meaningless.  He shouldn’t probably voice it but who really cares?  They should think they are SB contenders.  They are really good.

It's a joke.  Lighten up Francis.  You don't even get the context, so I'll explain it in terms you can understand.  Whenever the Bills get a new player, someone chimes in with a post proclaiming "championship".  Do you get it now or are you still in a fog?

The Chargers may have the most talented roster in the AFC.  They are absolutely contenders.

I’m still disgusted by how poorly they were prepared for the Pats*** in the playoffs.  One of the worst playoff performances in recent memory.  Is that on Lynn?

Belichick has made a HOF career by outcoaching most of the guys on the other sideline.  I wouldn't put the blame on Lynn for joining that group.

The funniest thing about the Patriots win was something I saw months later.  There was a show on Showtime called Action where they showed this tout named "Vegas Dave" picking the Chargers and getting hammered online by the people who bought his selection.  The guy was a big mouth tout bragging about his success who ended up in trouble with the law:

Prominent sports bettor David Oancea, known in gambling circles as “Vegas Dave,” pleaded guilty Monday to a misdemeanor in federal court.

He originally faced 19 felony counts after authorities said he used other people’s Social Security numbers to open player accounts at casinos. The alleged crimes occurred between February 2015 and February 2016 and involved transactions that amounted to more than $1.2 million.

They weren't on the most important game of the year. The Chargers were utterly embarrased in Foxborough.

Seems a little early to say this about Lynn.

I just think that he needs more experience before he’ll be able to match up well against top notch coaches. Lynn doesn’t bring anything cutting edge to the table like many of the successful young coaches do. His job is all about getting the most from a super talented roster. I’m not sure that he’s ready to lead a champion in the short window he has before Rivers retires. With that said, I trust Rivers to show up in big games even less.
