Houston Texans decide not to have a GM for 2019 season

Recommended Posts

So now not only is Bill O’Brien the HC, and the OC (he decided not to hire one last year), he’s the GM too.

Well if they don’t make the playoffs after going 11-5 last year, he will finally only have himself to blame

Some suspect that Easterby, whose rise from Chiefs’ team chaplain to the Texans’ executive vice president has been both meteoric and, for many, confusing, will continue to climb the ladder, regardless of whether it’s anchored in bed of quicksand.

You think he has some connections?

I think he’s a Belichick wannabe. BB doesn’t have a DC, and makes the final personnel decisions. I believe BOB had always had control over the 53, even when he first got hired

Other GM’s around the league are praying this fails miserably.

You're probably right. I would assume they are also expecting it to fail miserably.

If we kept marrone I imagine it would’ve gone this way. He might’ve suited up at RG too.

Maybe im in the minority on this.   I don't think it's that big a deal from May to Feb.  I think the coach should have control on the final 53 anyways

They're going to hire the guy from New England next year.  I'm sure that was the agreement that was reached between the Texans and Pats.  In exchange for not pursuing a tampering charge on Houston they agreed not to hire the guy until some future date.  Probably post NFL Draft 2020.

I also think that they will hire him next year, but if I’m the Pats I don’t want a guy working for my team for the next 7 months who already has a plan in place to jump to another team, especially one that is in-conference.

The Bills went from the beginning of the offseason through the 2017 draft without a GM.  Whaley was dead GM walking, all he had was a title.  He was not even allowed to speak to anyone in the media during that time.   Most of the GMs work is done when free agency & the draft are over anyway.
