Donovan McNabb says he's a Hall of Famer http://go.si.com/z6N9n2f

Former NFL quarterback Donovan McNabb says he deserves to be wearing a gold jacket and be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

McNabb made his argument to TMZ and focused his candidacy on one player.

“I’m not hesitating on that. I am a Hall of Famer. My numbers speak for themselves," McNabb said. "My numbers are better than Troy Aikman’s.

McNabb is a first ballot Hall of Very Good candidate.  He's not a Hall of Famer.

Troy Aikman Super Bowl wins 3, Donovan McNabb Super Bowl wins 0

Another reason to never use QB stats when comparing careers.

So it's late October 1999 and my good friend is having his bachelor party at Tootsies (Miami). In line in front of our group is DM and his group. He used his "NFL ID CARD" (didn't even know they existed until then) to get him and his buddies in for free. I think the cover was $20.00. I was shocked that someone who just signed for 8 figures wouldn't just pay the cover.

He didn't play against the Dolphins the next day, the Iggles lost.

I voted no, good but not special.

Tied with Jim Kelly for the most playoff wins by a quarterback who did not win the Super Bowl, with 9. The record for most playoff wins by a quarterback before eventually winning his first Super Bowl is held by John Elway, with 10.

Wikipedia

still don't see him earning a gold jacket.

I will make a case for McNabb.

Outside of Tom Brady, I cant think of another QB who had as much success as McNabb with total scrubs to throw to most of his career.

Have any of you actually looked at who his receivers were?  It’s atrocious.  He did more with less than just about any QB I can think except Brady.

The one time he had a good one, T.O., he took them to the SB.  McNabb was also tough as nails, finished a game with a broken ankle.

There are worse QBs in the HOF than McNabb.  He’s not a first ballot guy, but I think he has a case for the hall.

Lol OP.  HOF?  Seriously?

Short list of SU QBs that turn out to be a decent Pro QB.

Lets leave it at one.  McNabb.

Why call out the OP? He started a thread based on something McNabb said. Why do you assume that he is on the side believing that McNabb deserves a gold jacket?

Duly noted - my bad OP.  Please accept my apologies.

McNabb is delusional.

Well, if Aikman didn't win 3 super bowls he wouldn't be in the hall of fame either.

He was throwing to James Trash and Todd Stinkson for much of his career, so he gets a slight pass. Hall of Famer? Absolutely not. McNabb is the personification of a "good" quarterback. Nothing exceptional about his career.

Can't get past him puking on the field during what could've been a Super Bowl game-winning drive.

Let Philly put him put him on their Wall, then throw crap at it. Hey, it’s Philly!

I hate that this will eventually break down into a racial conversation. Dude, I am and always will be a big McNabb fan and if he could have won even ONE Super Bowl, this conversation might be different. No, he's not HOF worthy.

I'd go as far as to say he's a lot better than just "good" but just not "good" enough to reach that next level.

Why would it be racial? He was good, I have no clue what his numbers look like. I think that’s where his HOF hopes are as with any QB who isn’t winning multiple SBs.

I'd go as far as to say he's a lot better than just "good" but just not "good" enough to reach that next level.

He averaged roughly 23 TD's and 10 picks a season in a pass happy Andy Reid offense. He was a solid runner, but he also took a ton of sacks behind a decent line. Much of that can be attributed to his subpar offensive weapons, but he held on to the ball way too long for my taste.

Maybe better than good all things considered, but not a HOF'er. Fair or not, a Superbowl win would probably give him a stronger case, so I agree with you there.
