Pizza: How Important Is the Outer Crust?

  1. 1. Pizza: How Important Is the Outer Crust?

    • It makes or breaks the pizza. A decent pizza can't have average outer crust.
    • The main crust is the most important, but the outer crust is still significantly important.
    • It's all about the main crust. Outer crust isn't even necessary.
    • I hate the outer crust. Usually toss it, or give it to the dog.

Listen . My opinion is the only one that matters. I’m an expert , a buffalonian , and a hardcore pizza lover

if you dont have a good crust or outer crust you ain’t got ****

topping don’t matter if your base is ****

Dough , sauce + cheese make a pie

Would you say that the outer bare crust is the best part of the pizza?

I think the important thing to remember is that, whatever the crust, pineapple is the greatest thing to have on a pizza.

I like pineapple on pizza BUT it has to go on later int he cooking process otherwise it keeps the crust soggy (well OK I will blame the lousy cooks at the work cafeteria for that)

The order of importance is as follows:

1) sauce

2) crust--with the critical element of the exposed crust being that there isn't too large of a border

3) cheese

4) toppings

Also of a critical nature: pineapple should never be in or on anything. It's literally the worst food on the planet.  I would rather be restricted to nothing beyond cod liver oil for the rest of my days than eat pineapple once more.

I like a nice thick outer crust.  I prefer a good Sicilian (thick) pizza or a deep dish" with a sturdy bottom.   Just don't give me a pizza with gooey dough.

By definition of a "dish"  I guess you could call it that     That ^^ is pizza crust in the shape of a bowl filled with stuff.  Like a Shepard's Pie or a Pot Pie.

Now this is a Thick Sicilian Pizza.   (God I miss Nino's)

Invalid. Sicilian is always square.

You almost got an AWESOME ..... But your insults to pineapple soured they post.  lol.

Sauce IS the most important part.

I usually have pineapple on ham for dinner, then eat the other left over slices.

The "Hawaiian" pizza's I get are usually a work thing as I'm the only one in the family that would eat one.

Square?   Square?    LOL  For the most part yes.

But from Nino's Sicilian Pizza you can get a thick round or a traditional "square" (rectangle sheet) pizza.

Oh yes, it's an extreme hate for pineapple.  It's hideous.  The taste literally induces a gag reflex.  And that's a shame, because I love food, and I want to eat as many different types of food as I possibly can...but pineapple is awful.  It tastes like someone took a nice, juicy piece of fruit and cursed it with a pox.

And believe me, I've tried it so...many...times. I've tried coating it in cinnamon and brown sugar and roasting it.  Nope.  I've tried it fresh on tropical islands. Get it away.

The worst thing about it is that it's flavor just contaminates any dish it's in too.  Can't eat a delicious fruit salad because here comes pineapple to pollute the whole thing and make everything else taste like pineapple.

As far as I'm concerned, pineapple can can take a dive into the deepest abyss the world has known and never return.  And while it'd down there in its solitude, it can light itself on fire.

Interesting.  I've never heard of anybody having that sort of reaction to pineapple before.  Kind of sounds like how some people are with cilantro.

Mrs. Bandit used to be like that with cilantro, but she's managed to overcome it.

Sorry to hear that bandit

A lot has to do with "ripeness".  Like most fruits it has to be just right so it's not too bitter or bland.

You need a good outer (exposed) crust. Half an inch to an inch of a nice thick, crispy crust.

Oh, and if you use a knife and fork to eat a pizza, you need to be institutionalized. It does not matter the type of pizza or the thickness of the crust. You eat it with your damn hands. Heathens.
