He doesn't contribute anything to the gameday roster and would almost certainly be inactive 16 out of 16 weeks barring injury. It would make sense for the Bills to persuade him to retire and make him a coach. He’s the elderly vet presence in the QB room that balances out JA. Has he expressed interest in such a career move in the past? He probably finds it fun to still be one of the players, a part of the team, actually playing the game. And he's a veteran guy who adds knowledge to the QB room. Doc Brown Posted April 28, 2019 Share Posted April 28, 2019 It's easy if you try. Josh Allen's style of play makes him open to injury. If that happens I don't see McBeane being comfortable with Jackson as the backup (he'll pry be relegated to the practice squad). Inigo Montoya Posted April 28, 2019 Share Posted April 28, 2019 (edited) Anderson will be on the team as the QB3 and inactive for most games, but Anderson will be in there during the week to help Allen and Barkley get better at their jobs. How many times has McBeane said how happy they are with their QB room now, and they recognize how they blew it by not having a strong veteran presence in that room at the beginning of last season for Allen? Turning Anderson into a coach will completely throw off the dynamic that they have created in the QB room. Allen lost his QB coach this year and he needs some stability. They are not going to take anyone else away from Allen at this point. They are not going to mess with a QB room that is working well. If Allen feels comfortable and is happy with Anderson and Barkley in that room, they are going to be there. Also the pay day for a Veteran back up QB and a QB Coach or Quality Control coach is way different. Anderson is probably making a 2 year 10M contract. Rc2catch Posted April 28, 2019 Share Posted April 28, 2019 Anderson is just fine as QB3, let him stay on the practice field throwing balls to receivers and running offenses as opposed to standing with a clipboard. He’s there for more than just the quarterbacks, who do you think is practicing with the rookies and showing them the playbook and where to line up and make adjustments? I’m sure if he just wanted to coach they would of already brought him back as a coach. Based on the draft, no one wanted him so someone will waste a roster spot on him? He will be cut and on the practice squad.
