McD says things that are uncomfortable to a lot of men. He talks about the players on the team loving each other and he means it. If we ever get the right combination of talent on this team they’ll be unstoppable.

This is something that the analytics crowd seems unable or unwilling to understand. Relationships matter in football or in any team sport and they have the power to make a difference in wins and losses.

It's not easy to quantify and it doesn't replace talent. And the NBA is not the NFL. But I loved the article in the sense that Popovich figured out a way to be himself and use that passion to build his team.

supposedly that dinner happened here in Orlando when orlando had the inside track. the GM did not want Duncan to leave town without a deal and Pop came here. i have heard the dinner was at about 10 different restaurants so I am less certain it is true.

I've heard that Rob Pelinka pulled the strings and made that dinner happen.

Ah the old Mike Mularkey team bonding over Cheeseburgers at McDonald's experience

I thought it was Dave & Buster’s, and they got to play games too.  That Mularkey spared no expense when Ralph was picking up the bill! ?

I always remembered the story being he took them to McDonald's(which I know is a weird choice for a professional football team) but I just tried to google some articles and although I found some about him serving the team Cheeseburgers none of them mention McDonald's so perhaps this is one of those my mind is playing tricks on me things...I mean we are talking 2004 here!

I read this article on Pop yesterday and absolutely loved it. Food and wine can link people from any background. It brings people closer. Just so interesting to see how the Spurs have managed to keep that family mentality in good times and in bad.

Is it true that you bond with your friends at the casinos? Rumor has it you enter with your pockets full of bitcoins, and leave with empty pockets? You need to save your money so you can continue to make those grand campaign contributions. It's called networking. :)
