According to multiple NFL sources, the Jets seem "determined" to trade down in the first round of the NFL Draft, which begins on Thursday in Nashville. Jets GM Mike Maccagnan has made it clear several times that he's "open" to the idea, though he may be downplaying just how open to it he actually is.

"They seem to really, really want to move down," said one NFL executive. "Maybe they're just keeping their options open, but it sure seems like that No. 3 pick is for sale."

I hope Beane doesn't try to move up to the 3rd spot.  That would mean having to give a division rival a 2020 1st and possibly a 2019 2nd.

I'm OK with a 2020 1st rounder. We should be in the late teens to mid 20s. I think that draft will be like last years, a decent 1-12ish and then a bunch of the same grades from the mid first through 2nd. There are 111 underclassman who declared (record high), which seems like it will be a bit thin in regards to depth of talent. The 2019 draft is very deep and stocked with talent.

I'd do all that I could to hold on our #2 this year and give a 2019 3rd and 2020 1st to move up. I would look to use some of our collection of mid & late round picks to move back up in RD3 this year

You don't know that.  Injuries and bad defense could result in a 5-11/4-12 season, which means handing the Jets a top 5 pick in 2020 that could yield them Trey Smith, Jerry Jeudy, Derrick Brown or AJ Epenesa.

Are you saying that you could accept any of those outcomes?

Well, one team recognizes that when you have a young QB who is in dire need of weapons, using your first pick on defense makes no sense, even if there are "generational" talents available.   This was entirely predictable, especially with the Jets lacking a second round pick.

I don’t know why you think our defense is going to be so terrible....?

Um, Kyle Williams retired and I have ZERO confidence in Jordan Phillips being able to replace him.  If Hughes continues to face double teams, and neither Lawson nor Yarbrough can take advantage of that, our pass rush is nonexistant.

kyle was good but if he's why you think our defense was good last year you're wrong. he can be replaced

Roll the dice. If they have a strong conviction you go and get your guy. We are not going to have a top 5 pick next year...

Yes, he can be replaced.  But, he needs to be replaced with a GOOD PLAYER.  Not some cast-off that didn't record one sack last year and is being expected to take Kyle's spot full-time.

Which is why you move up to go get your guy

You don't know that.  If Josh Allen progresses as well as many of the best 2nd year QBs have in the past, we very well could be drafting #32 in the 1st round.

I hope they do trade down.

Mike Maccagnan has not shown to be a great drafting GM.

But it’s harder to miss on a top 3 pick (that is not a QB...), especially in a year with some elite pass rushers at the top of the draft.

Trading down increases the chances that Mac drafts another bust...

 LOL

I love the top few DL in this draft and Beane will certainly be aggressive if he has a partner (or needs one). Oliver, Allen Williams Bosa are head shoulders above others in this class.

Yeah kind of like what happened to Houston, with Watson they looked like a team on the rise and after his injury they ended up giving the Browns the 4th pick in the draft.
