Beane is talking a LONG time ... very interesting

Did anyone listen to it?  Twitter guys are saying Beane gave a lot of info about how the Bills draft.

I’m watching it right now. Bills.com will have it to watch on demand probably

It was general stuff for the most part. Beane explaining need vs. BPA. Says he knows people don't believe him when he says draft BPA, but he really does. Said he doesn't feel like there are any glaring holes on the team that would force him to take a position earlier than others because of a big need, but he acknowledges that obviously some positions are stronger than others. Will be open to moving up or down int he draft and gave his criteria for doing either.

Very interesting.  If anyone wants to know how Beane puts a board together and what his vision about drafting is they should watch this.

Yolo, one thing I found fascinating was the number of players left on his board.

He says it averages about 130.

Yes and he said it depends on how good the doctors are to them meaning i guess they can’t include some on their board based on their medicals

I got the sense that Beane and his guys put a board together based on players they really would want on the team.

Starting with 350-400 players and working it down to less than 150 was something I personally never heard a GM talk about.

His thoughts on trade ups and downs made a lot of sense.

There was a shockingly high number of good questions and I felt Beane answered them pretty honestly.

Let's all hope this years draft falls well for him.

Sounds like Josh might have let slip that he might have talked with Daboll during offseason?  He tried to cover, but sure sounds like he let something out there that he shouldn't have.  Ooops...

I’m just here so I don’t get fined!

Edit: Beane actually said a ton. Media did a nice job asking questions that they’d be willing to answer

What would that have been?  It was bad that Josh said he talked with Daboll during the off-season?  Wouldn't that be a normal thing to do?

Anyone have video of each individual person interviewed?

Here is the full video with everyone all together from Facebook.  You have to skip ahead over blank time in between.

I am pretty sure they aren't allowed to talk, or at least not talk football, according to the CBA.  Check it out for yourself, maybe it's nothing - around 14:55 in above video.

Thanks.  I did not know that.  I would imagine all teams do it, especially QBs.

Just watched it.  Yep, you definitely caught something there.

Yeah it's crazy, and apparently many don't like the rule, but they actually aren't allowed to talk.  I am sure many do, but it would explain why Josh got a little flustered there-

Probably the craziest element of off-season NFL football, no thanks to the CBA, is that from the end of every season until this time, head coaches and their assistants are forbidden from talking to any of their players, returning or otherwise, about any football matters pertaining to the coming season.

I’m quite certain I saw him mouth the words “Michael Floyd” in there.

There it is. The Bills will be drafting Michael Floyd

His TE comment made me think Hockenson instantly. It’s always fun to go back after the draft and see if he gave any tidbits away.

There are, I'm sure, a bunch of players who want to get away from football for a time, and don't want the football junkies among them to get a competitive edge.

LOL, I did too.  I'm not big on a TE at #9,  but I'm becoming pretty sure a TE is picked early.

Thought it was a bit of a "tell" about RB.  He said there are some he still would like in FA.

I would like to see TJ Yeldon catching balls out of the backfield.

I'm sitting here trying to listen to the presser with one ear bud in and no audio is coming out.  I keep forgetting that One Bills Drive has still learned of this new audio technology known as "stereo".

Yeah, how does that work?  He starts with 300-400 and ends up with a board of 130?   Does that mean that he WOULD NOT take any of the 250 who didn't make his board?   What if he gets to the sixth round and ALL of his 130 are gone?   What does he do?

I'd like to know how that works.

I am not totally sure.  I would think that his "boarded" 130 are guys he wants to work into draft selections.

I image they are rated through the 7th round.

Would he take guys that are not on his board?  I wish one of those "supposed" sports writers would have asked.

I'm thinking the 130 represent "his guys" so I image there could be an additional list rating guys that didn't make the 1st cut.

He did talk about moving around the draft to secure these guys.  What exact criteria I again am not sure.

As I've said in another thread, Josh looks much more like a franchise QB with the facial hair. Very positive development.

He was a pre draft visitor

I thought the most interesting comments form Beane in the entire interview were when he said the d-line class was just "solid". He was asked by the reporter if he felt it was "off the charts great", and Beane didn't seem to think so. He specifically mentioned that once you subtract out the prospects you don't feel are a scheme fit, you're maybe looking at a different d-line class than the public is looking at.

Is he blowing smoke? Is he not that impressed with the d-line class? Is he going to make sure to take one early if he doesn't think the class is great as a whole?

Just interesting.
