That's what happens when people live their lives on social media...

You sure as hell ain't ***** your computer (at least I hope)

It's actually what happens to all highly developed, overpopulated countries....even before social media existed.

Really?

Is that why the number for males has tripled in the last 11 years?  "that's changed in recent years. Since 2008, the share of men younger than 30 reporting no sex has nearly tripled, to 28 percent.

Did we just get highly developed and overpopulater in the last decade, coincidentally the same time as social media's takeover of young Americans? The article goes on to submit that is not a coincidence...

'affecting Americans' sexual habits at all ages is technology. "There are a lot more things to do at 10 o'clock at night now than there were 20 years ago," Twenge said. "Streaming video, social media, console games, everything else."'

Both quotes from https://www.sltrib.com/news/nation-world/2019/03/29/share-americans-not/

Do "highly developed, overpopulated countries" propogate at a slower rate? Yes they do... But that just plain does NOT describe what this article is about unless we took some big step, a huge fundamental change just over a decade ago. Oh wait, we did, we became addicted to social media.

But on the subject: can Tinder be used without leading to a devastating STD?

Asking for a friend.

Yeah it usually just leads to the non-devastating ones.

There's actually some evidence that the increase in technology use is the result, not the cause.  Twenty-something males are more reluctant to pursue women and partake in a "hookup culture" where they're no longer certain of the rules and what constitutes "consent."  Basically, they're starting to that Fortnite marathons are far less risky than trying to find a completely sober, emotionally stable woman on a Friday night willing to give affirmative consent.

Yeah, social media is just another sub-factor. The internet, in general....video games...and the perpetuated notion among youngsters that getting married/having kids sucks.

That's a good point, too.

On top of risking STDs. The dating life is not fun for a lot of people and if there's not a significant cultural push towards getting married/having kids, then there's gonna be a huge drop off in numbers. There's no point.

Plus, it's a lot harder for males to get laid than it is for females, in general.

There's also the option of just watching porn and jerking off.

I figured with kids seeing online porn at ridiculously young ages that the total opposite was going to happen.  How did it not??

I think this has more to do with it then social media and video games. It's much easier to have access to hardcore porn then it was not that long ago. Generations before had to deal with scrambled channels, occasional late night cable softcore stuff, or an older brother or fathers nudie magazine hidden somewhere. Now, anywhere with internet access, anytime, they can easily find full porn available on the internet for free. Less work and cheaper then going to a bar/club and trying to hook up with someone. It 'does the job' and allows them to have more time to go back to playing video games and other stuff.....
