Bargain for the Raiders

I'm not so sure about that.. ?

Ok ya , there is no debating that a 3 and a 5 for the best WR in the game is a helluva bargain but that contract is RIDICULOUS !

You're Guaranteeing 10 mil per year to a 31 year old that publicly said he doesn't need football anymore...?

A guy that couldn't control his emotions and walked out on his team in a week 17 must win game .?

That contract is superrrr risky imo . 17-18 mil a year potentially ? RISKY.

And he's going from Pitt to Las Vegas!

Great player but that's too much for a WR imo, I'd actually be very upset if Buffalo ended up signing him to this type of contract..

Thank God it's over now.

I am sure this wasn't Beane's only plan to get a number one WR.

No WAY .

That's your opinion, and that's fine, but I don't think many young players would agree with you. There's a LOT to do, and it's not all like the brochures want you to think.

Believe it or not, you can do stuff in Vegas other than "heathen" things. And I don't want to get into it, but there are many, MANY negative things people can say about Buffalo, but we heard enough of it two nights ago I don't feel like retreading that garbage.

You can do stuff other than "heathen" things, but come on man.  Most people going there are not going for the midnight buffets.  There are MANY negative things that can be said about anywhere.  Whatever.  I'm not a fan of Vegas, but I see why people would find it entertaining to a degree.  I don't know if that town will support, continuously, an NFL team.  It's an industry town, like L.A. is an industry town.  It's not a sports town per se.   When they first get there it will lit.  10 years from now?  They better be winning.

There is no other way to spin it: the Bills look bad.  They couldn’t beat that?  Are the Bills that much less of a desirable destination than the Raiders??

The Raiders will be in Las Vegas in another year, there is your motivation.

So odd they dont pay Mack but they pay this 31 y/o diva. I dont get it. And weren't they shopping around Carr??!?

The logic of the Raiders continues to baffle millions of people.

It wasnt about Buffalo. I was talking about he is doing to Pitt. He agreed to a contract and it still has 3 yrs left on it. Forcing a situation in which he gets traded puts Pitt in a bad spot. It is about one player impacting a whole team because he is selfish. Going on Instagram saying he is going to announce his new team is making it seem like this is the AB show. You can flame me if you want but him being out of the game for a while not by his choosing may humble him a bit.

Teams don't have to honor the contracts players sign. They can be released with years left on their on their contracts....it works both ways

I honestly think it was just a matter of location for AB.

I have no issue with Buffalo, but when you may be playing in Vegas soon, what player wouldn't be excited about that?

Plus Nevada is another state like TX with no income tax, so players tend to like that.

Brown went to the Raiders because they are the only team stupid enough to pay a asshead like him that kind of money.

I guarantee that no player that has a choice  of teams has EVER made state income tax a consideration.

NFL players pay state income tax in every state they play a game.  In 2019, the Raiders will pay state income taxes in California, Colorado, Missouri, Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and New Jersey.  They get a break in Houston because Texas has no income tax.

In 2020, when the Raiders move to Las Vegas, Brown will get some small tax relief for the Raiders home games.

He’ll lose more in the casinos than he saves in taxes.

Wow they gave AB the Money they wouldnt give Mack, but you do have to consider the fact that they kinda got Brown and a 1st for Cooper a 3 and 5.  I dont think Gruden is as crazy as people think.  Depending on who he gets with the 1 this year and next the Mack trade may have been a good one as well.

On paper I agree. Brown never makes anything easy or stress free. He is an awesome talent. Let’s see how he likes playing for a franchise with a dysfunctional  history verses one of the most classy. This is the kind of deal it needed to be for it to get done. Teams just didn’t want to give up a high pick AND then turn around and rework Browns contract.

I think recent history would paint Pitt as having more issues, but the two headaches may be gone now.  They just need to get Rudolph up to snuff and get rid of the last headcase and they will be good.

That's wrong.  Teams have to pay what the contract says.  If a bonus is due, they have to pay it.  If the guy is on the team, they have to pay what the contact says.  They can cut a guy, but that isn't breaching the contract.

Not at that price

Buffalo will find receivers

Really?  They’ve been so good and finding receivers, too.

Which free agents would you spend the money on who would have a bigger impact than AB the next 2-3 years?

My point is they can cut a player while he still has time on his contract. That's not honoring the deal

So, won’t pay Cooper or Mack, but will pay the 31 year old receiver.

Won’t come to Buffalo, but wants to play in Oakland who is in more of a rebuild than we are and a tougher division.

Yeah....I’m good

Gruden is WHACKED!!

I have a feeling that he's gonna draft Metcalf too

They didn’t want to pay him. Makes me wonder why you even engage in trade discussions if you’re not willing to pay the player. He made it pretty clear what his intentions were long before Thursday.

I’m sure they could’ve given him a new deal but perhaps they didn’t want to pay him about 18 mil a year for a potential headache.

Brown is way better than Cooper and they got 3 1st rounders for those 2 guys. Mack is great, but I see the end game for Gruden.

Agreed on the first part, except on the second part I don't quite have the clarity you do on his endgame (but then he has, what, 8 more years to accomplish it): the Bills would always get grilled pre-Allen with people saying something to the effect: "it's all about QB in the NFL." Does anyone here truly believe that Kyler Murray (or anyone in this draft) is a lock to do well in the NFL?

Perhaps trading Carr is all smoke, but if so, why all the bluster and intrigue. Brown makes a lot more sense for the Bills than the Raiders given that the Bills have a QB who is in his second year and may benefit from having a reliable, elite WR for the next two to three years to mask early accuracy issues. This only makes any sense to me if they are keeping Carr -- who has his own question marks (albeit he deserves much better than the way he's apparently being thrown out). As one of the most astute posters on here, your voice gives the idea of an endgame here some credence to me, but I can't see this endgame. Gruden "won" these deals, but not sure it winds up helping him all that much.

All that being said, we may never know the true reasons this went down the way it is. I see two other posters in this thread arguing conflicting points, both using speculation as fact. Ultimately, I'm a bit happy he ended up in a spot that feels a bit trainwrecky. I wish neither the Raiders or AB luck, and it's on to FA and maybe (hopefully) kicking the tire on trades for the other supposedly available-for-a-price WRs out there. It would have been nice to win this, and I'm not gonna sour grapes this, AB probably would have helped, but I also don't feel like we lost anything. Beane tried and something fell through.

I don’t understand why people are mad at AB. He is a (*^*&%^$^#but he did what he said he was going to do. He wanted to get paid.

If you’re worried about the Bills image look at Beane. Why was he entertaining trade discussions if he wasn’t willing to pay the guy? That’s a non starter, he should have known that.

Same agent as Shady, same exact play by DR and the player. This time the Bills said no.

How long will it be before Rosenhaus and Shady try to pull this crap? If Shady starts to have another bad numbers year? If the Bills draft a RB early?

Nah, Chuckie will just keep churning QBs through the Raider locker room until he gets one that suits AB.  Don’t they come in six packs?!  ?

I think the Raiders have their eye on the 2020 draft which will have better QBs. I wouldn't be surprised if they trade something in this draft for another #1 next year. They would then have 3 2020 first rounders. They probably play Carr for 1 last year, unless someone gives them a good deal on a trade.

People was out here talking bout swapping firsts for AB smh... Raiders got him for a 3rd and a 5th? That's a sweet deal

That is the price for a piece of ***** locker room cancer who doesn’t show up to meetings or practice for the most important game of the season.  His production will go down
