    • Yes. His days as a Bill are numbered. Release is inevitable.

    • He still has trade value. So trade him (to, say, Philly) this off-season.

    • No. There is still gas left in the tank. So keep him as a Bill for the coming season.

I voted to release him.

Interesting question.

We take a $2.6M dead cap hit for trading or cutting Shady.  He is not scheduled for a roster bonus or any guarantees triggered by the start of the new league year.

We pay him $6.1M on a per-game basis, for a $9M cap hit if we keep him.

Given that, I see no reason why the Bills would release him.  What is the downside to them keeping him on the roster through the end of pre-season?  I don't see one.

Now if his legal case heats up and he turns into a headache, perhaps.

Otherwise, he seems to work well with Allen.  IMO Allen learned some slick rushing moves from Shady, and Shady seemed at times to be serving as a player/coach in the backfield.  So he might have value to the team beyond his rushing abilities, certainly through pre-season.

I think you are going to see him used more as a pass catcher than a traditional featured back.

I think some dont realise how important it is to have NFL levelof play on the OL.

Our line sucked.  When Shady managed to get into space he was still very dangerous.

If we are pleasantly surprised by some new talent, and a serious contender has a RB injury, his value would only go up. No reason to act rashly, waiting is wise IMO. Keep all options open.

If I'm making the call, I defer to McCoy.

It's appearent that even if he has a little juke left, which is debatable, he's showing that he is prone to getting knicked up. At his age this is common. Twice he got knocked out of a game very early, was always on the injury report.

If McCoy is open to a reduced role and sharing the backfield with young legs then I would keep him. Id use him in a Darren Sproles role. Not concearned with his pay because there is plenty of $ to go around. Let him "keep his coins". He's earned them.

If his pride is in the way, if he's still obsessed with a chance at 12k yards I try and shop him. No takers, then release.

He can't be the focal point of the offense anymore in my opinion.

If they could trade McCoy I would be for it. The buyer would be on the hook for 6.5 mil and the Bills for 2.5, might get a team to offer something for that. Either way I would like to see new talent in the backfield myself. Ivory and McCoy would free up almost 9 mil in cap and create 3.4 in dead cap. I disagree that he was still dangerous in space. He was at the very bottom of not just the rushing but pass catching rankings on pff. Now pff is no authority and the o line was not good at all, but being at the very bottom of 34 rbs in both categories is not a good sign. I think the Bills need more youthful talent.

Not sure what guys like Coleman will get in fa but I would be happy with him. I like Spencer Ware too. That 9 mil may even be enough to bring in more than one talented rb. I like the idea of having 2 guys who can both run and catch. The Bills had the most expensive and probably the oldest backfield in the league last year. They were also about the least productive. It's time for a change imo.

My semi-bold prediction is that he is included in some kind of draft day trade, a la Stevie Johnson.

...jeez Yolo, not sure if I can agree.....outgained by his QB with the same suspect line......30 years old and due $6 mil.......Peterson at 33 signed for vet minimum ($1.015 mil) with Deadskins and rushed for 1,042.......

I don’t think he will be traded on his own. It will he some sort of package - like Shady and a 5th to move from the 5th to the 3rd (something like that)

Keep him as starter one more year.  Draft his eventual replacement in Montgomery ISU, Singletary FAU or Henderson MEM.  Shady can split carries and play 3rd down as he knows protection scheme etc.

Would like to see more loaded backfield with motion etc to get desired matchup on LB in passing game.

A 9 mil cap hit for a reduced role because they have plenty of cap and he's 'earned' it? I'm pretty sure he has been fairly compensated, being the highest paid in the league last season. The Bills don't owe him anything imo and should do what's best for the team. There should never be cap money wasted just because you have it. It rolls over into the next year.

If they can get a team to offer anything like that I'm all for it. Either way though I'm hoping they opt for a change.

...no way to ever know if his "head 'n heart" STILL equates to starter material.........he has six million reasons to tell you "yes", but being out rushed by his QB with the SAME OL sure as hell raises a BIG question IMO....
