I like Bud Dupree. He's like a poor mans Josh Allen, and could be an eventual replacement for Lorax as a guy who can play off the ball and play as an edge guy.

Devante Parker is relatively interesting, and perhaps Malik Jackson if you can't find a better defensive tackle in free agency or the draft.

A poormans Josh Allen?  Josh Allen is a great prospect but Dupree as done something at the NFL level.  LB Josh Sllen has done nothing.  I think LB Josh Allen will be great.  You notice how we have to use words like "I think" and "will be".

I hear you. I guess my point is that Josh Allen has the higher upside. He's an elite talent, whereas Dupree is a pretty good NFL player.

The Dolphins have a lot of guys on that list. It should be interesting to see what they do. I wonder if they have any good Olinemen who they might be cutting for their tank.

I think they definitely cut Josh Sitton, and probably Daniel Kilgore and Ted Larsen.

I would define Sitton as good. But he missed most of the season this year and is going to be 33 years old. He's an experienced guy who might make for an interesting stopgap somewhere, but that's pretty much it.

Kilgore is a smaller zone center. He's 31. He was the guy they Niners re-signed then when they signed Weston Richburg, they traded Kilgore to the Dolphins. I would say that he's ok, but he's not better than Russell Bodine. Plus Bodine is younger, bigger, stronger, and has more experience.

And Ted Larsen is pretty bad.

What is wrong with Malik Jackson? I remember him being good- i would like the version of him i remember.

I won't pretend to have watched much of the Jags this year, but Malik went from being rated elite by PFF the year before to being among the lowest rated DTs in the NFL this year.

I wonder if Amendola or Crabtree would be worth a affordable contract I wasn't  Crabtree fan but he seemed to calm down a bit after not being the player he first though he was going to be when coming into the league I think he has been humbled a bit but still is a competitor .

He may be a good get just haven't followed him enough to know, & Amendola was a good receiver too but didn't watch him in Miami at all so i guess either would be a crap shoot ...

Amendola will be 34 at start of season and averaged < 10 ypc last year and scored only 1 TD.  He threw for as many last year?  PASS.  I would take Adam Humphries as slot or Z .

Crabtree is not an X receiver who dictates coverage anymore.  Doesn't separate and another 10 ypc guy.  Only 3 Tds last year.

Duke Williams and/or a FA / Draftee will compete for X position.   Tyrell Williams or Demaryious Thomas are X receiver as is D Metcalf.

Dareus is the perfect example of a player with all the talent in the world, but who completely lacks the motivation and common sense to harness it.

The level of play he displayed that led to his huge contract extension was off the charts. He had the potential to be a perennial All Pro. What a waste.

Strong candidates for release

1) Case Keenum, QB, Denver Broncos

2) Blake Bortles, QB, Jacksonville Jaguars

3) Malik Jackson, DT, Jacksonville Jaguars

4-5) CB Jimmy Smith and WR Michael Crabtree, Baltimore Ravens

6) Ryan Tannehill, QB, Miami Dolphins

7-10) WR DeVante Parker, DE Robert Quinn, WR Danny Amendola and DE Andre Branch, Miami Dolphins

11) Donald Penn, OT, Oakland Raiders

12) Bud Dupree, LB, Pittsburgh Steelers

13) Charles Clay, TE, Buffalo Bills: Clay was a splashy free-agent signing by former GM Doug Whaley. He was a healthy scratch late last season, usually the final sign a player is on his way out.

Potential surprises

...

3) Marcell Dareus, DT, Jacksonville Jaguars: Dareus is ultimately a valuable run-stopping specialist who is paid like a superstar.

...

I agree with the sentiment that Charles Clay is likely cut, especially since he was not active late in the season. I'm looking forward to getting a bigger, better TE hopefully this off-season or next. Really interesting to see Marcell Dareus listed as a potential surprise cut. I think this shows that Dareus has never lived up to the bloated contract he received in Buffalo and ultimately was not worth it for the Jaguars either.

Are any of these players worth bringing in if they are cut?

Some believe that Marcel is still an All-Pro

Justin Houston on surprise list maybe Mcd can give his friend Andy a Call and get him for a 7th rd pk. Houston and Hughes would be nice to watch on Sunday's.

Horrible fit though. A huge amount of money for a guy who is a 3-4 linebacker. I'd want at least a 3rd from Kansas City to take him.

Not necessarily KC runs multiple fronts on defense . I've seen Houston line up plenty times with his hand on the ground.

I would also say Lorax is something of a hybrid on the edge and he seems to have flourished in this defense. It would be great to get pass rusher done in FA'cy/trade so we can focus the rest of our attention to the offense.
