Armand Salguero’s scorched-earth plan for the Phins

Thanks, good article. Fake GM Mando.

He’s right though, that team needs a tear down and rebuild bad. It hasn’t been 17 years since they made the playoffs, but they have clearly been going nowhere for a long, long time.

Short of being able to get a potential first rounder for Howard and I'm not sure they could...I don't see how they will be able to add sufficient draft capital.  They would likely need to do some kind of deal to move way back in the first round to get perhaps another first rounder for next year, like we did w/ KC while picking up Tre White.  If they make all their cuts that are suggested and clear up enough cap space then they could potentially take on bad contracts, similar to Osweiler deal for Cleveland to gain more pics.

He talks about saving over $50M plus in cap, but there is a minimum amount of cash that needs to be spent to begin with...

Moving on from a large majority of those guys makes sense, but trying to flip Xavien Howard for a first round pick that will likely not be as talented as he is? Why not just pay the man with the newfound money?

Obviously building through the draft is the best way to manage the cap and develop talent, but those guys aren't going to be eligible for a new contract in the next 3-5 years, so where will all this money be spent? What players will want to come to a ****show of an organization that's visibly tanking? The Mario Williamses that are ready to retire in Florida?

Wow—now this is a teardown plan, and he is clued into that franchise. https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/armando-salguero/article225952960.html

Looks like we should be expecting the Bills to beat Miami twice next season. If we don’t, it’ll be a real failure.

Isn't this a similar plan that McBeane devised for the Bills? Get rid of players from the prior regime and take a bulk cap hit in one or two years ?  The strategy is to acquire picks and use those picks to fill your roster with cheaper first contracts. There is nothing new about this strategy. The Raiders are going full blast with this approach and the Bills to an extent are doing the same thing. The key for this strategy to work is to get your franchise qb from the draft and within his first contract fill out the roster as much as possible.

It's over the course of 4 years minimum of 89%

Be careful.  Beane tore it down before the 2017 season and the Bills won 9 games.

With all due respect, a lot of the tear down happened during and after the season with the Dareus, Ragland, Glenn & Taylor trades. And EJ Gaines from the Rams trade did contribute handsomely during the season - so I wouldnt call Watkins part of a fire sale. And Matthews and Benjamin were, on paper, expected to be productive - the plan for MIami 2019 would be a lot different than Bills 2017.

Exactly. Philadelphia did the same thing with chip kelly but he was fired and then the team wins the super bowl with a back up quarterback. The process takes longer but it gives you the best chance because you’ve loaded up on assets. Fans always want to win now and hate when the talent gets traded away but it allows the team to stack up on young talented players.
