I'm not so sure Milano becomes a big ticket linebacker, White for sure, Dawkins hasn't earned a new contract at all, Hyde will be 31/32- no big contract there. Poyer won't get a long term deal at age 30.  I would think any contract Hyde or Poyer would get post age 30 would be designed with little risk for the Bills to term early in the deal.

If Milano has a healthy year and stays on pace he’s gonna get paid top 10-20 money for his position. Same with Dawkins, if he shows any improvement at all.

I agree poyer and Hyde are not going to get huge money but those are still decent sized contracts if they’re keeping them. My point wasn’t that they’re all getting huge contracts or all even being resigned just that the front office is surely planning the spending this offseason on some of those contracts coming up in the next couple years.

I still disagree- 20th highest paid LB is $9mm - no way Milano gets that. Dawkins was awful last season, he needs to show a lot this year to stay a viable option.

I don’t why people want to overpay for a possible injury risk Tackle, especially since G and C are cheaper, and as stated above the draft is rich with Tackles. Our interior is the greatest need where we can build a great running program to counter the Pass.  Bottom line is Tackles cost a ton of money right behind QB’s,WR, and Pass Rushers.

we can get those more expensive players in the draft on the cheap, and fortify the positions of need.  Remember we need around $5 mil for the draft, $5 mil for an emergency fund, and save some cap space for who we extend the following year to keep players here for the long haul.  Just one of them will be T. White in 2020.  He is a lockdown CB.

Even if the cap increases to $90 mil, that is $15-20 mil off the top, so use the money carefully as Beane stated in the letter to season ticket holders.

We’re not going to blow even $80 mil in this free agency.  Maybe $60 mil.  Wouldn’t it be more prudent to get a Paradis, C, and two WR, or a TE and WR?

I think folks are looking at LT and Center in FA for a few reasons:

Dawkins took a step back last year and may be a better fit at guard so could be moved inside.

This draft is deeper at Guard and RT than LT and Center, and the few better LTs and Centers probably should not have early round grades, but will go off the board any ways to fill needs on cap-strapped teams. Not saying they are bad players, just that they will go sooner than they should, so the Bills cannot count on them falling to them as BPA.

Filling with a free agent would help to inject some veteran stability on the line, not looking for retirement age prospects, but those that have seen enough to calm the troops.

For someone like this, I would expect he would have to clear medical checks and have some clauses that protect the club and the player to a degree if the same injury forces an early termination of his contract.

Oh Dawkins definitely has a ways to go I 100% agree there.

We may have to agree to disagree on Milano though lol.

But to be fair, I would guess whatever list you’re browsing includes 3-4 outside linebackers which is a totally different ballgame than what Milano is going to make. I browsed overthecap for 4-3 backers and Alexander is 17th for just under 4 million per.

I like Milano but there are guys like him in the draft every year, as long as you evaluate and scout well you can replace that type of player without giving him a huge contract. Jmo

His contract wouldn’t be super high. Just spitballing but I would guess he’s a 4-6 million a year guy. But he would have to stay healthy and continue improving. I should of clarified in my original post top 10-20 money as a 4-3 OLB.

You sure about that? This won't be an issue until 2021, but I wouldn't be surprised if Milano got a 9mm deal. Guys who can cover/make plays at that position are in high demand. He was arguably the Bills best defender in 2018.

Saw some speculation that the Bills will sign him in FA. 2nd team all pro in 2017, missed all of 2018 with knee injury. Thoughts?

From Wikipedia -

Before the Beane Counter starts throwing around that kind of money on a zipper...he had better get my more than one orthopedic specialist's opinion.

My dream is to sign Daryl Williams, Matt Paradis, and Trent Brown.

(LT) Trent Brown - (LG) Dion Dawkins - (C) Matt Paradis - (RG) Wyatt Teller - (RT) Daryl Williams

Probably would cost us at least 10mil per year for each guy. It’s would take upwards of about 35mil of our cap space. Still would have nearly 50mil left over. Sign another stud pass rusher and a WR... Playoffs!

One can dream, right?

me like.

I like your plan but would be very hesitant to sign trent Brown at LT as he is an RT forced to play there when Isiah Wynn got hurt.  He is not a good pass pro guy and the NE quick passing game covered up some glaring holes in his game.  Remember when we played Langston Walker at LT - disaster!

Have to believe C and RT are a target for McD and Beane and are more affordable.  Then Draft your LT (Jonah Williams in Rd1) or Andre Dillard in Back half of rd 1 (trade scenario) or Rd 2.  Get a 5th year option on a premium cost position if picked in Rd1 - may be why they try trade up to back of Rd 1 and snag Dillard.

So Line could look like this:

Rookie LT -  Dawkins LG - FA Morse/Paradis C - Teller RG - FA Williams RT

Good mix of youth and veterans and way more talent and power to run block.

nice counterpoint. Thanks !

It's the NFL, everyone is an injury risk at some point.  Williams had surgery to repair his injury, that often helps.  If we decide to pursue him, they will evaluate his medical issues, if he's not healthy , they won't sign him.

I have a bit of faith the Drs are now doing a better job at evaluating players health and condition more closely.

I was very disappointed after Jordan Matthews epic fail for Bills medical staff.
After he had left and even post season he was talking about how messed up he was.
He also mentioned one of the injuries was a lingering one from philly.

I just have to trust in the Medical Team at this point they can do their job.

So when i say YES to a player with history ? I assume ...... they are cleared at 110% healthy and able.
Taking risk is not my thing with key players. btw
Pay for the center. Groy can back up at C  and play swing guard. for cheaper than Bodine. we should trade him (Russ ) actually as there are only so many  : )

fix the O line today and Then draft for the future. Please do not draft with hopes to start

we all need Josh to Live long and prosper lol

If he can pass the physical and is healthy? Easily put him on this roster. Him at one tackle spot, and Dawkins somewhere solves two spots. Give Teller a shot at one guard spot with a lower end free agent or draft pick to challenge him (I did like him in his starting time though). If we can sign a center as well that really frees them up to take bpa in the draft.

I don't know why, I like Milano,  but for some reason not totally sold that he is anything special. He's above average much of the time, but not always.  Just can't read him well I guess.

I'm a big believer. If he continues to make plays the way he has, I think he'll be in for a nice payday. That would be a good problem to have 2 years from now. He just seems to be one of those guys that has a knack for big plays. TFL's, FF's, INT's. We'll see if he can keep it up.

Don't forget the name OT LaAdrian Waddle Has ties to Daboll in New England and both of our new offensive line coaches. He infact started in Detroit though he may not be upgrade to Jordan Mills but should be cheaper or maybe better depth than what we have now.

The league needs a YoAdrian Something.   Missed opportunity by his mom.

Bills should also pick up Squally Canada in UDFA.

He looked shocking at LG.

He is a good LT. Keep him there.

Let's not try and break the 1 bit of our O line that's doesn't need fixing

It can't get any worse. I am all for lining up the best 5 regardless of where they played last year.
