They could pick up his 5th year option in 2021 before signing him to any kind of long term contract. That's 3 more years before they have to worry about it. Chiefs need to keep surrounding the kid with talent on both sides of the ball to keep winning. Why people say that Doug had no control of that draft is 100% incorrect in my mind when our Owner and former GM have stated otherwise. Pegula knew he was firing Whaley before the draft even started. No way he’s going to let him make the decisions at that point.
