  1. 1. What if Gronk Wanted to Play His Last Season in Buffalo?

    • No - His career as a Patriot makes me not want him here
    • No - His hit on Tre White makes me not want him here
    • No - Other reason; see below
    • Yes - I would be happy to see Gronk in a Bills uniform

It looks like this is likely Gronk's last season.

HOWEVER:  If he was able to get himself back to 100% healthy and, as a Buffalo native, he wanted to end his career by playing his last season in Buffalo - would you support it?

That's it: Time for Beane to blow up this roster and coaching staff: Only hire coaches with Buffalo ties. Reich make him an offer he can't refuse: Hands the reigns to Chad Kelly to be the field general and sign Gronk and bring in or back every WNY native, relative, former lover, anyone with Buffalo roots ONLY and we can then all sing kumbaya around a fire at the tailgates and go 4-12 but hey at least its Buffalo roots!

Would he be willing to come here on a prove it heavily incentive laden team friendly type deal? Besides "the hit" and bad blood built up over time for that dude, the main issue is actually his injury history/availability and recent performance--I'm more interested in building solidly for the future in developing young quality talent, than grabbing a player who has past glory but comes here to be put out to pasture with no real long term future prospects left (see, e.g., Bledsoe, Merriman [love to pick on that guy], Langston Walker). All that said, although I'm a no right now, I could still probably be convinced that he could have a decent game or two left in him for at least the Pats games, to stick it to Hoodie, that alone would be nice.

Yeah, it's his home town.

If they didn't want him, fine, but I am not going to argue against someone wanting to come home and play for the team he grew up watching.

He could have done that on his second or third contract. Screw him at this point, plus Tide Pod boy would not come back to play.

Along with our "mentors," another waste of a roster spot.

I dunno who is meant by "mentors" being a waste of a roster spot.  'Zo Alexander is a mentor, for example, but that guy can still flat-out Ball.

However, the whole premise of what McDermott and Beane claimed they wanted to do is build a team for sustainable winning.

To continue to bring in and give roster slots to old guys on their last hurrah like Anquan Boldin, Vontae Davis, and Rob Gronkowski in preference to capable FA or UDFA rookies we can develop seems like

  1) an admission their scouting and talent evaluation are not what they need to be.

  2) an admission their premise is faulty since "old guys on their last hurrah" do not equal a sustainable winning team

Furthermore, it failed spectacularly in the case of both Boldin and Davis, and resulted in their not re-signing or signing guys who arguably could have stuck with the team and helped.

he's always seemed to talk pretty ill about the bills, so i'm don't think he'd particularly want to come here.  i suppose it's not fair to say he spoke ill, but i've definitely seen him go out of his way to say he never like the bills in a very condensing way.

Gronkowski has explicitly said the only QB he wants to catch passes from is Tom Brady and he would rather retire than play for another team.

He played his senior year in HS in Pittsburgh and doesn't seem to have strong emotional ties to WNY.

So this is strongly hypothetical.

I honestly don't think he can be elite anymore.  The Bills need to focus on being a team on the rise and not waste their time with something like that.  Assuming Clay will be cut, I'd rather see Croom continue to grow, give Logan Thomas one more year to see if he can arrive and of course, I expect we'll draft a rookie in the top half of the draft that will need to be developed.  I don't see him as a respected veteran who can teach younger players like Lorax, Kyle or Derrick Anderson fit in their roles.  We'll already have Shady as another vet that is likely in his last year w/ Bills.  I don't see how he can help.

I couldn't care less that Buffalo is his home town

Solid points, Hap, as usual.
