I knew it was going to be a challenge. I can't say if it was more or not, they were good players. They brought leadership and an edge. I thought we lacked that edge up front this year, and we were out of sync. I think we had players there that have talent, we just didn't mesh.

IOW, "we need better players on the OL."

“It would be like drafting a guy you have a third-round grade on in the first round out of a need or because you don't want somebody else to get him. Well, now the expectations in our building, in the locker room, the media, the fans, is, ‘Wow, this guy's a first-round pick. I'm expecting him to be like all first-rounders.’ When in reality (if he’s not), it's not his fault. He's going to have a hard time. You're setting him up to fail when you do that, and that's the thing that can happen in free agency.

Sounds a lot like Nix/Whaley when they drafted EJ Manuel.

They've taken 2 years to remake the defense with multiple UFA signings and high draft picks. And defense is typically the easier side of the ball to get up to speed, albeit harder to maintain.

For that reason I'm not convinced that they'll get the offense in one off-season even with that cap space and the usual complement of high picks.

Particularly when UFA offers less and less skill players and this draft is thin on top offensive prospects.

And, throw in a coach who doesn't seem to embrace that games are won and lost by scoring points and having enough defense.  He seems the opposite of that.

Why does the offense have to be completely done next season?  I think the offense has a lot of potential on it already.  A lot of young players who could breakout next season.  Even adding just a few lineman and 1 weapon for Allen could fix the run game and allow Allen to work with the speedy young players we have.  I'm sure they'll add more help though.  What is a realistic improvement for the offense?  Top 15? If they can reach that on offense, they could make the playoffs with solid D.

Imagine a few of the youngsters on the offense making a Milano type jump in their development next season with a QB room that looks solidified for the first time in a very long time.

Duke Williams is a big question mark but could be a great first pick up.  What a find if he can produce anything close to what he did in the CFL.

"You're conversating with everybody. You're not just having a one-on-one conversation with somebody. So, I think he understands that.”

"did he really say "conversating"?

A word you use when trying to say you were talking to someone so as to come off as more cultured or intelligent. In reality, it does little more than make you look like an idiot who's trying too hard. If you must make yourself sound like a pompous ass, the correct term is "conversing."
Pompous Ass: "...we just sat there conversating for a while and it turns out that..."

Unimpressed Listener: "Cool story bro."

Gotta read between the lines.

They fired the oline coach so I don't think the lines need to be read between.

They will hopefully get some new players, but "being in sync" and not meshing seems like a coaching issue to me.

When did you see the poor coaching?

I didn't, nor did I say I did.

We have something we havent had in a long time. A Franchise QB and one that seems to elevate the play around him.

...yup I did....think you take take his "social media" comment and eliminate the word "social" from it as in he plays it close to the vest, remains cordial yet reveals virtually nothing to the media.....I like that approach.....no public "throwing personnel or coaches under the bus" a/k/a not airing dirty laundry.......how it should be.......we had to stomach the master bloviator Wrecks far too much with the embarrassment here with his "Jets West circus".......thinkin' as "Bo knows", so does McBeane...stay tuned...........

Is anyone able to DM me the contents of this article? No matter how many times I clear my cookies and whatnot, I can't seem to get past the pay-wall.

I will try. I am not a subscriber but seem to be able to see all the articles

edit: I jinxed myself. Apparently you can only read it once

Thanks, I sure appreciate it. Something about my home computer just will NOT let me see Buffalo news articles no matter what I try.

If they spend 3 off-seasons rebuilding with the goal of merely making the playoffs that's a low bar. (Cue the person who tells us Buffalo made the playoffs in 2017).

Lots of ifs and hopefully's.

Josh had very little to work with, but I wouldn't pronounce him a franchise QB.  Encouraging signs yes, franchise quality no.

Year 2 usually has a significant jump.  I do believe he will make that jump without a doubt.

Also 2017 was the add a few pieces while we evaluate season.  The Rebuild Was really last off-season and this one would be year two, unless you are one of those guys that thinks Beane ran our draft from the Panthers WarRoom.  I fully expect us to make the playoffs next season.  If we are at least in the mix week 17 I will be happy.  2020 We need to win play-off games and maybe take the division.

We cant force FAs to sign here and it can take time to develope OL and WRs. So I wont sound the alarm if we fail to make it at 9-7 or 10-6.

Would you consider it a successful season if we went to the playoffs at 7-9 and won a playoff game.  I wouldnt.
