Can't the Bills find a TE that can block like Gronk?

Did you see that man against the Chargers?  He mauled safeties, defensive ends and corner backs with great BLOCKING!  Not holding or brush blocks but tough, solid, smack down blocking.  And, he can make catches in tight coverage.

Is it that difficult to find a player in the draft who can do the same?  Maybe a smaller tackle?  Maybe a large Wide Receiver?  They have to want to BLOCK and BLOCK more!  A pretty-boy TE with great speed is nice but not the real answer for the BILLS!

If it were that easy, everyone would get one. It’s also not as effective if you don’t have to respect him going out for a pass.

Gronk is a special talent. A soulless piece of *****. But a talent.

All you have to do is wait under a Gronk tree until one falls off. They are somewhat rare and you need one that is just right. The Cheater’s version seems to be a little over-ripe, at this point.

But good for Gronk. He found a way to stay relevant. You maul safeties blocking when you can no longer run over and away for them going for TD’s.

TE's like Gronk are not a dime a dozen.

FIRE THEM ALL!

1 catch I think. But he was a blocking machine!

Of all the issues with clay, he’s certainly a willing blocker

Willing, but sucks at it and catching game winning TD’s.

TE is the historically worst position the Bills have ever had outside of perhaps PK.

Researching before I posted, I found only Ernie Warlick has ever made the ProBowl as a TE.  I didn't know much about him but after reading a bit he sounds like he was a great player but for a short period of time.

The rest of the bunch have been physically average neither possessing speed or size to any dominant degree.  Metzelaars was tall but never a dominant blocker.  He amassed just over 100 catches during the four SuperBowl years COMBINED.

Even an aging Tony Gonzalez would have been the best TE in history had he not blocked the trade from KC to Buffalo.

Iowa is producing some really good ones... as their OC was NE assistant OC and TE's coach.

San Fran's George Kittle is a product:

Drafted in 2017:  in 2018 he had 1377 yards which broke the single season receiving record for TE's and got a pro-bowl invite.

It is rumored that the Iowa coaching staff sat Noah Fant as talented as he was because he didn't like to block and they saw a more complete talent in T. J. Hockenson. The kid is good - catches everything and does not mind blocking.

T. J. Hockenson declared for the NFL draft today.

From a 2017 article:

Hockenson watches a lot of film of the New England Patriots’ Rob Gronkowski, today's preeminent tight end in the NFL. Most think of Gronkowski as a pass-catching phenom; but Hockenson notes the reason “Gronk” is so proficient is because of his blocking skills.

Hockenson is not yet an NFL-level tight end. But no doubt, Hockenson is off to a great start. And he has all the tools — the dedication, size, strength and hands — to get there ... while perhaps becoming a sneaky-dominant force for the 2018 Hawkeyes.

“If the kid stays healthy, he’s going to get to play at the next level. And we’ll get to watch him on Sundays,” Smyser says. “I think he’s that good. And how he fits into that Iowa program, they make tight ends great.

There are a few mocks that have NE taking him in the 1st as Gronk v2.0.  I would rather see him in a Bills uniform.

Maxx would be interesting, he seems to have under-performed his draft status. I know there were lots of us clamoring to draft him, maybe he could be our solution to one of the biggest needs we've had. Clay certainly didn't solve the issue.
