Josh Allen throw chart

11 throws 15 yards or less and 12 throws over 15 yards. So why is this happening? because JA looks at deep throws first? well maybe but maybe its because they are not getting separation early on routs or maybe our OC is calling WAY TO MANY DEEP  PASSES!.   Doesn't the rate of witch a QB throws deep passes effect a passing %?

I just find it interesting.

Now lets compare this to  Mahomes chart https://nextgenstats.nfl.com/charts/list/all/kansas-city-chiefs/season/week/patrick-mahomes/MAH401939/2018/15/pass

Other then the amount of throws look at the percent of deep throws to 10 yards or less?

29 throws within 15 yards or less, 6 throws over 15 yards?

Now here is Rogers throws on a GOOD GAME!  This game was against Miami and they won like 32 to 12. https://nextgenstats.nfl.com/charts/list/all/green-bay-packers/season/10/aaron-rodgers/ROD339293/2018/10/pass

18 passes 15 yards or less, 5 passes over 15 yards.  I CANT EVEN BELIEVE I AM SAYING THIS after years of not seeing enough deep throws... but do you think we are throwing deep a tad to much? lol

my only problem with the deep throws are that they seem to happen too much on 3rd and short.  maybe it's not and i'm just appalled when it happens, but i feel like there's too many manageable 3rd down plays that end up in a deep bomb.  if the opportunity is there, go for it, but i feel like he may force the big play a bit too much this point in time.

I have kind of the opposite feeling you do so to speak... I feel like they hardly ever take a shot on 2nd and 1 or even 2nd and short and it should be a great time to take a shot because if you don't make it its still 3rd and very short.

Yesterday we seemed to really be pressing the deep ball too much.  I mentioned  to a friend it was if a drunk Bills fan was calling the plays.   Once we had three in row, punted, next series had 2 out of 5 with the final being the TD to foster.

i agree with this.  on so many 2 and shorts, they continue to run the ball to grind out 1st downs.  it's hard to complain about keeping the chains moving, but that's the time to take a shot.

exactly.  i'm not sure if these are just the "open" routes at this point, but it happens almost too much.  i hate to complain about this though.

I think part of that may be that it's part of the play where Allen scrambles sending recievers deep to give him space.

I totally agree. early we were making nice 3+-5 yard passes.. why did we stop?

I think he threw downfield a lot yesterday because a) guys weren't getting open initially, and b) he just waited too long to make a decision a few times. I'll be interested to see where Josh ranks this week in ave time in the pocket. For all the heat our oline takes, Allen had lots time on a bunch of throws yesterday. It was nice to see. Mckenzie going down hurt.

agree but to bad WR didn't get open most of the time.. or he had to wait TOO LONG for them to get open.

What I liked is he got more time and it coincided with more good throws from the pocket

I imagine Rogers sees much more coverage that makes him throw short.  They are probably trying to keep everything in front of them.  Where as with us, until Foster came along, they probably had little fear of our passing game and figured they could jump a route at some point for a pick.  In other words they are probably playing close to the line of scrimmage and daring us to throw deep.  If Allen keeps hitting Foster for big gains like he has you will probably see defenses change to take that away and then there will be more short passes.

From the Athletic:

If you just look quickly at the box score, you’ll see Allen completed only 50 percent of his passes for just over 200 yards and view this as a ho-hum game. Other stats help provide context, though. For one, Allen averaged 23.4 air yards per target, second most in the league this week heading into “Sunday Night Football.” His receivers also had an average of 2.31 yards of separation at the time of the catch (second worst in the league) and 2.63 yards of separation at the time of the throw (worst in the league).

I think that's probably true of every QB. What I liked is he seemed to make better decisions yesterday. There was a pass attempt (incomplete) in the middle of the 3rd when he scanned the field for like five seconds and was eventually chased out of the pocket to the right. He keeps his head up the whole time trying to find someone and eventually throws it away. The replay showed the coverage at each step, and legitimately there was no one open the entire time. That's progress.
