Would McBeane have cut Clay too if Croom didn’t have injury

The way I see it, next year is his final year of his contract. You still try to sign/draft a #1 tight end. Until someone takes that role there’s zero reason to cut clay. Nobody is going to trade for him. There’s just no reason unless we HAD to get rid of him which we don’t. 

We may not like the contracts of guys like clay, Murphy or shady but it’s pointless to cut them or trade them for junk.  

Absolute best case scenario next season is younger players we acquire from draft/free agency at those positions push for the starting jobs making the 3 mentioned above either pricy backups or rotational pieces. 

Its not like they need the cap savings next season. Someone like clay could do just fine as a rotational player or spot starter for an injury. Gotta think they want more production from the tight end spot in this offense and will focus on improving that
