Allen might have had a fraction of a second to set and get more into it, but when you have a veteran TE who gets hit in the hands and can't hold the ball, nor figure out he needs to work back a little towards his QB, is there a reason to have that veteran TE?

 You have to keep in mind the specific circumstances of that play. Josh was running for his life. When he made the throw he was off-balance. He had to get it off as fast as possible.He had no time to set his feet. Essentially, it got there. All Clay had to do was take a couple steps towards the pass and catch it. Josh made a great play in my opinion. Shame

But the bad pass has more valid reasons for it.

 

Guy is scrambling, throwing across his body to  wide open receiver who can't figure out too late (before falling on his face) that all he had to do was move a few steps to the ball and walk back into the EZ.  It was
