Hackett was a failure here and he fared no better in Jacksonville. Marone was a fool to rehire him. He was also a fool to agree to resign Bortles. Add the huge contract to one of the laziest players in the NFL in Dareus and we have a franchise headed in reverse. The real question is, will these moves save Marone's job? Will they have a new GM going forward or do they stand pat and hope for 2017 to happen again with a new QB under center? If they draft a new QB, they eat that big salary to Dareus whom they signed to win it all in 2018 and 2019 while the rookie develops. The owner has some difficult decisions to make after this season.

..whoa...da Fuhrer has awakened and said they did it right in the off season..... I'm certain it includes the three-year, $54 million Bortles extension deal from Jacksonville that includes $26.5 million in guaranteed money ......

Jaguars' Coughlin defends philosophy, offseason moves

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Tom Coughlin recognizes that NFL rules favor passing and insists he understands "what the public wants."

"It's obvious," said Coughlin, who's in charge of all football decisions for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

But Coughlin also staunchly defended Jacksonville's run-first, defensive philosophy by saying the team's offensive woes have more to do with a lack of explosive plays than its ideology.

And while Coughlin didn't point the finger at quarterback Blake Bortles, the Jaguars executive vice president of football operations made it clear during a radio interview Tuesday that Bortles' struggles have been a significant part of the team's failures in 2018.

"Our formula a year ago was play great defense, run the ball and do a superb job of play-action pass," Coughlin told 1010XL during the station's Jay Fund charity event. "Obviously I still believe in that very much, but you have to ... if you're going to rush the football, you've got to have the explosive plays.

what role has Coughlin played in these decisions is my question. Marrone is still a very young NFL HC. and not very bright. Old Man Tom surely has some hand in this situation ?

Not his fault that Bortles blows.

I agree the D isn't playing up to their lofty potential that their D coordinator had them playing at last year even with all the same talent Hackett was just a scape goat & if Fornette wouldn't have done such a foolish stunt the game may have played out a bit differently but we will never know !!
