Wonder how long it will remain "New Era Field"?

So you are on the record as favoring socialism for the rich. ??

Amazon doesn’t need these tax breaks no more than Buffalo taxpayers among the poorest in cities over 200,000 need to kick-in $500 million for a new stadium.

Just so we are clear, do you think WNY taxpayers should be on the hook for providing subsidies to billionaire natural gas tycoons like Terrence & Kimberly Pegula?

Might I suggest that you stop watching the NFL and switch to local high school sports? It’s much cheaper and won’t require an outlay of your cash. I’m not trying to be nasty but major league sports are a big business and everyone in them, including the players are in it to make big money. It’s far from a bunch of guys playing in their backyard.

Moving production to Florida???   I wonder where they are building the plant.

It sounds like they already have a plant there, and have it only because their MLB contract stipulates on-field worn hats must be manufactured in the USA.

Lurker nailed it above;  NewEra is no longer a manufacturing company.

Oh, just this.

Incentives from New York state: $1.525 billion, including:

  • $1.2 billion in refundable tax credits from state’s Excelsior Program over 10 years, based on the creation of 25,000 jobs that pay an average of $150,000.
  • $325 million from Empire State Development based on how much space Amazon takes over the next decade.
  • Incentives from New York City:

  • Amazon said it would apply for a New York City subsidy program that would provide it property-tax abatements for up to 25 years.
  • The company also is to seek incentives under a city program that could provide $3,000 in tax credits per eligible employee over 12 years, implying a $900 million benefit if all 25,000 workers are eligible. Amazon may also be eligible for other tax credits.

Cool, now business can go on welfare while our taxes go up.

People leaving NYS is driven by weather. 6 months out of every year, sucks, unless you Ski,(etc.)

PERSONAL income taxes are too high. Corp tax rates in NYS (or lack thereof) are a friggin' joke

The weather, please, people leave because jobs are leaving and taxes are extortion level.

Correction. Companies cant afford to pay manufacturing labor for apparel in the US

If you took the time to actually read the article, this has very little to do with NY vs. Florida and a great deal to do with US vs. China, Vietnam, and Haiti.

Additionally;

From the article: “For me,” he said, “the cultural change was to have people really spend most of the day talking about those things.”

If the company is shifting it's business model from manufacturing to fashion and licencing, would you rather have a site in Derby, NY or Miami? That's not to bash Derby, but I don't really see trendsetting innovation coming from that hamlet.

They're essentially setting up a sham operation in Miami in order to meet certain criteria for the deal. Nevertheless, their new business model probably favors a site in South Florida, all things being equal.

Right so instead of being about doing business in NY, one could say

Right. I didn't disagree with that assessment chief.

The ‘if you read’ had me thinking otherwise.

For  a company of their revenue a 200 employee shop seems like peanuts but in what little info is there, margins are so lousey shifting mfg off shore is probably a survival move.

Because they are being "gifted" almost 2BN in tax credits/savings from the state to do so...a break no small businesses (relatively speaking) could ever count on.

http://www.fox5ny.com/news/48k-per-amazon-hq-job

$2 billion in tax credits (i.e., credits against future tax bills, not actual cash payments) over ten years seems like a fair price to pay for 25,000 new jobs paying $150,000 per year (a total of $38 billion over ten years).    Not a bad investment at all...
