The Nonsense about Camp & Preseason

All we hear from July to September is about  QB reps.  Who looks good and who doesn't. Who runs the plays well and knows the offensive system. Preseason is about not getting players hurt and honestly proves nothing for QB's.

It is all so insanely crazy that now we are starting scrap heap QB's (Barkley & Anderson) who weren't in camp, didn't play in preseason and obviously don't know the nuances of our offense.

Is all the coach speak about having an offensive system a smoke screen?  Is it all FAKE NEWS from the media that makes millions on the NFL?

well you can bet that our offense will be a lot simpler this weekend, given how Barkley has just got here. If he had more reps the OC would build upon that playbook & add more wrinkles & options.

You can look at this situation like you have posted, or you can look at it how the coach recognizes that Peterman is hurting this teams chances more so than helping & out of desperation he's going with Barkley. Thats pretty much where we're at right now. Desperation time.

Me personally, i hate losing & especially the way we're doing it, but I knew going into this that we were bottoming out this roster to make our move this offseason. I'd rather go thru these pains & be horrible, all to build this team to be a championship contender, then living thru mediocre 7-9, 9-7 seasons for all of eternity.

Time will tell as it always does, but i dont think those preseason comments are nonsense. Its just that we're in a pretty rough spot & are just looking for someone to get us thru the weeks now lol

Well, that all depends upon which NFL team you're talking about.  Generally, successful teams with lots of established veterans on their rosters don't play their starters much.  They play lots of 2nd and 3rd stringers and Day Three/UDFA rookies looking to make the roster.  Even when first teamers are playing, they don't tend to go all out the way they would in games that count.  This tends to make less talented teams look better in preseason than they really are.

The Bills played better in pre-season than they've played in the regular season because now they're going up against teams that are not only more talented but are also willing to go all out to win.   They're also going against offensive coaching staffs that are not only light-years better at their jobs than anybody the Bills have on the sidelines but have offensive talent that is light-years better than almost anybody the Bills put on the field, too.

The Bills have an offensive system; that's not a smoke screen.  The problem is that it's an offensive system that might have worked thirty or forty years ago but is a joke in 2018.

The starter and backup are hurt.  Your third QB didn't do well.  So now another one.  That is what happens when two guys get hurt.  Duh.

It's what happens when the HC's anachronistic philosophy meets the GM's incompetence meets owner's "profit trumps winning" mantra to form a melange a trois made in hell for fans.

And here we go with the nonsensical profit trumps winning crap.

They drafted their heir young QB to be their future.  He got hurt.  Facts vs.  your crap.

It was insanely crazy that McBeane did not address replacing the 3 solid starters gone from last years offensive line, they had plenty of time.

Woods and Incognito were gone by the end of January and Glenn was traded in early March.

Name a starting center in free agency they should have signed. Other than Bodine.  And they had Groy who had filled in capably.  Plus they had Dawkins at LT so Glenn was replaced.

Guard I can see.

The lesson here is to not put too much emphasis on pre season games. Preseason doesn t mean nothing. It means less than nothing.

It means a little something but most can’t grasp that whether or not we throw a 50 yard TD - it’s did the qb have good mechanics, make the right read on time, did the ball have enough zip in Nate’s case etc.... while too many jump straight to the stat line

If you are a great coach and have a great system then spending time in it is a big deal.  If you are a coach that has marginal to bad results and a questionable system, then time in that system might not matter so much.   The O-line will look like an O-line when we get a coach who can coach offense and a QB who can help them recognize defenses and change plays.  The O-line is as much a result of the coaching as the WR's and RB's.  Let's face it McCoy has done as well rushing as KB has receiving and no one is saying McCoy sucks.  I think when/if we ever bring in a decent coach on offense everything will "magically" get better.
