He's on a 1 year deal and will be a UFA next season unless he's retained by the Saints. But they have painted themselves into a corner by giving up so much to land Allen, they will likely coddle him and keep Anderson or bring in another vet who poses no legitimate threat to the starting job long term. Plus they have essentially hitched their careers to this kid. Now “McBeane” has no choice but to surround Allen with as much talent as they can afford/draft and hope for the best or they are done, especially with how poorly they’ve handled the QB situation thus far during their short tenures in Buffalo. When he was traded, from his comments it sounded like he was very happy to go to NO and be Brees eventual successor, and Brees sounds like he very well could be ready to hang it up very soon.
