PlayoffsPlease Posted October 15, 2018 Share Posted October 15, 2018 What percentage of passes in the NFL go to the first or second read? I am unable to find any information on this. There is a lot of criticism of young QBs about making poor decisions after making there first read, But watching other games yesterday, it seems to me that more than half of all passing plays go to the first read, and that 75% go to the first or second read. Something that I think gets missed when fans take screen shots of passing plays and start circling open guys (which obviously is a dumb thing to do). The overwhelming majority of completed passes are based on the first read. For example if Patrick Mahomes first read is wide open 75 of the time, he has an easy pass attempt. If Allen's first read is never open, then the time to read that is lost and I am pretty sure the second read pass is always more difficult. You'd likely need the Bills to publish their playbook and hot routes, or an annotated all-22 review by the coaching staff. Much appreciated. They were never the same, nor will they ever be, and the Bills and Bills staff are not the Chiefs and company. They shouldn't be compared, and I'm tired of hearing about us passing up on Mahomes, so did every other team prior to the pick.
