P.J. O’Rourke is a nutjob?

Sure.  Just another nut-job author of biting and poignant political satire, HL Menken fellow, regular correspondent to Atlantic Monthly, American Spectator, and NPR.

We should all be such “nut jobs”.

EDIT: Again, I’m not sure if njbuff referred to PJ or Beto.  If the former, he’s not well-read and incredibly naive.

If the latter, he’s brilliant.

It's interesting to me that Buttigieg is diving into religion and faith as much as he is.  That's not something you typically see from a Democratic candidate.  The cynical side of me is he's doing it to stand out from the pack, to help him win over minority voters, and to possibly pick up some evangelical voters turned off by Trump.

Nothing for nothing, Doc - I always respect your opinions - but how does one nobody differentiate oneself from 20 other nobodies?

Though the irony will be lost on Franklin Graham, he just boosted Buttigieg's popularity immensely.

You say that like Graham is Oprah and Buttigieg is a book.

Buttigieg is a one-hit wonder. He's making a bunch of cash by flaunting his homosexuality while  whining about a Christian who has done nothing but say nice things in return. Once his coffer is full, he'll bow out...play grand marshall at a bunch of parades...and show up one day on Dancing with the Stars.

Let's leave the Sabres out of this.

The media is obsessed with his sexuality but he talks about kitchen table stuff in the speeches I’ve seen. The Pence attack is what it is—an attack on a guy who is against gay rights by a gay candidate—but it’s not his focus. He’s gay, but mostly he’s pretty folksy.

He’s untested and not yet vetted, but worth watching. Comparing him to another no name who became president, Mayor Pete is not a lecturer-on-high in Obama’s style and that’s more his appeal than anything else.

Can the battleground states vote for him is all the Dems should be asking. Because with Bernie, the answer is no.

Pence's voting record on gay rights and his support for conversion therapy outweigh the nice things Pence has said.

wasn't aware of the nice things

we'll see how aggressively propagating the rights agenda does in national politics

(it won't win, ever...)

The message of this video, that Trump's soft condemnation of Charlottesville was alarming, is one I agree with. But it's hardly *the* defining moment of the last 2 years and to make it the focus of an initial campaign video is dumb as hell. Not that videos like this mean a ton, but man to have this as the initial "I'm running" video is all wrong. The music. The talking to the camera, making his campaign about the other guy, etc.

Just awful--and I kind of like Biden’s chances as a centrist candidate.

I compared to a few others of these rah rah videos and Biden's is the worst one by far. The best one is Booker's.

Obama's statement of "support" today is tepid at best.

Quote

“President Obama has long said that selecting Joe Biden as his running mate in 2008 was one of the best decisions he ever made,” said Katie Hill, Mr. Obama’s spokeswoman. “He relied on the vice president’s knowledge, insight, and judgment throughout both campaigns and the entire presidency. The two forged a special bond over the last 10 years and remain close today.”

It's bull####.  Between them, I count about 20 in the last six weeks alone.

The Boston Globe has a better tally, but I'm not paying them to see it.

^^A summary of the numbers.

For perspective from May 2015: “Leading the pack with 10 percent each are former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker,”

gotta love cherry picking AFTER the results come in

you have to go with the situation in real time in a campaign, and a sports game and life in general

and it's fine to get paid to rummage through the chicken droppings looking for undigested food, but doing it for free??

after the election we realized we could have saved billions of $$$ spent on Hillary because she lost... duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Just eight points?

Quote

Former Vice President Joe Biden leads President Trump by 8 percentage points in a hypothetical 2020 general election matchup, according to a new Morning Consult/Politico poll

The poll, released Wednesday, shows Biden with the support of 42 percent of registered voters in the potential matchup, while Trump is backed by 34 percent of voters. Another 19 percent said they aren't sure who they would support, and 5 percent said they wouldn't vote.

If he gets Stacy Abrams as the VP he will easily bounce up to 14 points.

Way to go make this a place of dialog Tom.

I was providing the actual info to our discussion. I wasn't shifting the goalposts. 16 states was not right but the point was similar. People, especially Hillary, ignore much of the country already.

Whatever Dem can be guaranteed to flip PA is the Dem the Ds should vote for. If PA flips, Trump is in trouble.

and the last election doesn't necessarily have any bearing on the upcoming one, but experts will try to tell you otherwise, only if you let them

the economy, and maybe finally nailing Trump, will decide this one

and it's looking good on both counts for The Donald

:D

Pence couldn't be more useless to Buttigieg if he was his junior high PE teacher.

It's not a foil worth anyone's time. He gains nothing from it that he doesn't already have. It's bad enough the Donner Party is focused almost exclusively on socialism, infanticide, open borders, and the New Green Deal. Is someone telling Buttigieg  that the real issue is "We can't let conversion therapy be a thing!"??

This is a money grab.  Get some interviews, write a book, stock the war chest, and call it a day.
