In a scenario where a team has a starter and they draft another QB high to eventually replace him, no, that older QB likely wouldn't want to mentor him. If he does, great, but odds are he won't. In this situation where the Bills drafted a QB high and are playing him and then bring in an older QB, yeah, they're expecting him to mentor Allen. And I agree, Anderson has been in the league for awhile for a reason. But his play isn't really one of them. I don't get why people get hung up on Anderson's playing ability. He wasn't brought in to be a long term QB. It doesn't matter whether the older QB wants to be a mentor or not. Many older QBs are naturally threatened by the youngsters and will want nothing to do with actively helping the kid. But that competitive drive by the veteran will also force him to work and harder to stay in the line up, and that work regimen in itself is a huge benefit to the youngster. Sure a "lead by example" can only help. But again, in this specific situation, he was brought in primarily to mentor. At his age he's not anyone's QB of the future and he knows this. ONE OF the reasons he was brought in to pass along some of his experiences to JA. He will do that......along with being the backup QB. Which was another reason he was signed. So, pretty much, if NP was in the league for 3-4 years (for some veteran "seasoning" which is required to mentor) instead of 2, the Bills would have stood pat with him as the backup, despite his proven lack of ability to play QB if Allen was injured? No, not 3-4 years. That's AJM and they shipped him off. They're looking for someone with more than a decade of experience and someone who has proven not to be looking to be the starter.
