Only his fourth year? That’s an ETERNITY for a NFL RB. According to the NFL Players Association the average career length is 3.3 years.

Yes average for ALL PLAYERS combined. That includes UDFA whose average career is less than 1 full season. That skews some results

most draft picks last at least 2-3 seasons. And the RB position is loaded. Most don’t get a chance early unless they are a high round pick

3rd-4th season is the breakout time for a late round RB

It depends what you mean by Fred jacksonesque?

he hasn’t been here long enough to be a team leader or a fan favorite and he isn’t as big a back as Fred... Fred was 6’2 225

but he does have a very good contact balance about him that semi resembles Fred

I was just thinking more about a personal feeling on the situation. Shady is the incumbent Pro Bowl caliber RB in front him as Lynch was in front of Jackson. Murphy seems to make plays when he gets the ball in his hands. I also have a feeling that Murphy may end up being our featured RB when Shady is gone as Fred was when Lynch was shipped out. Just a hunch, I haven't consulted Dionne Warwick and the Psychic Friends Network or anything.

What Buffalo716 said,  Plus it's not just the years, it's the mileage.  Murphy's is low.

No. That 3.3 years is for Running backs. Not all players.

Ok and its 3.3 including UDFAs

hundreds of UDFA RBs that get cut within 1 year. Most drafted RBs stick for a while And are never given their time to shine so are just relegated to the bench

very few 6th round running backs are given a true load from the start of there career. They usually earn it over a couple years time

It’s not crazy Murphy is playing his best ball 4 years in
