In all fairness, their QB Ehlinger, is fighting through an AC sprain in his shoulder. He can't do the same things he did against OU right now. The Big 12 doesn't play defense though. Until Herman gets that defense straight they will be subject to losses just like this one.

The Big 12 doesn't play defenses argument is tired and lazy. Alabama has faced worse defenses in the SEC yet and they halfway through the SEC schedule.

The Big 12 has one team in the top 30 statistically on defense, TCU, and two in the top 50 with Texas. The SEC has six in the top 25. Alabama is about to face two of those teams back to back. They have beaten one already. No, the big 12 is not known for defense. It's not tired or lazy. It has however statistically been the truth for quite some time now.

How can you bother with stats when 8 to 10 games in a top teams schedule is a grossly outmatched cupcake?

Because it lines up with what you actually see on the field. From top to bottom the SEC is the strongest conference in the country. Alabama alone has probably pumped out more NFL defensive talent than half of the Big 12 combined in the last 5 years. All teams play others they are supposed to beat, but sometimes it doesn't work out that way. Ask Virginia Tech who lost to Old Dominion earlier this year or the host of other teams who choked those types of games already. The Big 12 seems to be known for their shootouts over the last 10 years or so. For instance last year OU lost to Georgia 54-48 in the playoff. In the BCS title game Alabama won over the same Georgia team 26-23 in overtime holding them to 10 total points after halftime.
