Why is nobody discussing the offensive line?

There's been a lot of talk from sports outlets about our O-line play thus far, and just as expected, it's not looking great. Anyone that wasn't trying to lie to themselves & scream "11-5 record easy!" or "playoff repeat!" because we drafted a talented, project QB in the 1st round, noticed that our O-line would be worse just by losing the 2 best players on the unit (arguably 3 with Glenn).

And as I've stated several times, look at our O-line play in 2016...it was pretty darn good. Look at the regression last year. Now subtract the definitive best players on that unit, and somehow we're going to do better!??

How many long-time players, coaches, and know-it-alls spout off "games are won & lost in the trenches?" It's true...We've seen bad O-lines kill QB's across the league & ruin them permanently (David Carr comes to mind)... We always talk about how the run game is supposed to be our bread & butter, but without talented players we're going to face a lot of 3 & outs (and we were 1st or 2nd in the league in 3 & outs last year). Teams probably won't even have to stack the box if they can consistently get pressure with their front 4. Everyone can drop back in coverage & try to make our QB's work much harder struggling to convert those 3rd downs.

I am not surprised that Dawkins is struggling.   He wouldn't be the first good looking rookie to suffer a "sophomore slump" by not being able to improve enough to keep pace with expectations.  Moreover, with OLers, success often depends upon whom they're playing beside.   Last year, Dawkins looked good playing beside Pro Bowler Richie Incognito.  Now, he's playing besides a rookie or JAG at best ...

At this rate with this o-line we might need to sign a QB's each week for this season. This O-Line is awful.

that was some "offensive" line play

Looks like high school level trying to play NFL.

What's sad Mills is maybe the best guy on O-Line right now lol.

I have always said losing Richie even tho on crazy side is our by far key lost on this off season.

The whole starting OL is paid about $7Mil collectively...

The off season plan to improve was a couple of cheap unwanted scrubs in Bodine and Newhouse and a 5th round draft pick...

Should we really be surprised?

.............and the sad part is, they are being overpaid!

OP - You do realize we can do things schematically to help our OL, correct?

Lets assume our OL is as bad as they looked last night.  Worst case scenario..

We can use TE’s heavily and keep them in to block.  We can run screens and utilize RBs to keep the pass rush honest.  We can move the pocket since Allen is mobile.  Etc etc etc.

So what did we do schematically different against the Bengals? How much better did Allen look behind our first string O-line?

Everyone keeps saying "just wait until he plays with the #1's! Then we can see how great he really will play!" But for anyone who isn't being biased or delusional, they can see our 1st stringers aren't world-beaters, and that we put him at a huge disadvantage by doing that!

The fact that Peterman was able to at least utilize timing & accuracy to stay alive so far is impressive. As long as he can do that, he should be the one taking the beating until Allen is more developed.
