Buffalo 66 is twenty years old this week

Recommended Posts

Well I think Tuesday is the day it was initially released in select theaters twenty years ago.  I had just started high school and heard somewhere somebody made a movie about wanting to kill Scott Norwood.  I thought that on its own was quite amusing at the time and made me interested in checking it out.

It's a movie though I liked more as I got older.  Watch it every couple of years or so.  The Buffalo filming locations as well as the Yes soundtrack are some things that make it memorable and some funny moments (the calls to Goon).

I remember posting a thread here to see if people liked the movie and I think it was mixed.  Regardless, the movie being twenty years old is making me realize how fast time goes by!

I think Buffalo 66 is def a decent watch, and  it grew on me over time as well,  but I always felt like he was trying just a little too hard with the “small town weirdos” vibe. He captures it, but presses a little hard at times.

I worked with Gallo on a project in the mid 90s. He's not trying hard to get the weird vibe, he really is that weird. Oddest person I've ever met. I liked Buffalo 66, tho. And if you've never seen his great performance in Arizona Dreams, seek it out. He plays a wannabe actor who performs a scene from North By Northwest - the crop dusting scene. So he's playing Cary Grant running from the bi-plane - on stage. With no dialog. It's freakin' hilarious.

Inspired by the title but not really connected to the content of Buffalo '66 but I always wanted to see a series done about the AFL.  Most likely from the standpoint of a fictional player or coach (or two) who would be observers to the phenomena of the AFL.  Buffalo alone had Ralph, Saban, Glichrist, Lamonica, and Kemp to name a few unusual people.  Then you had colorful non-Buffalo guys such as Bud Adams, Al Davis, and Joe Namath.  Would not have to create much fiction to make it interesting.   I'll have to talk to my lone Hollywood connection about it sometime.

Was an indie film that never saw the light of day, as far as I know,. He was an actor, I was the 1st AD. Working title escapes me...

Maybe this belongs in the confession thread, but I never saw Buffalo 66 until about a year ago. I enjoyed it - not surprising, since I like weird movies anyway.
