Seems like a lot of fake money in that deal

The $40M is very real.

Yup.  Thanks for 26 for reporting the guarantee money because I can’t stand when they report the contracts like most players will ever see that money.

He is an amazing G but in a salary cap, that’s a lot for a position that isn’t really a make or break one.

The projected Bills starting OL will be getting paid collectively about $7-8 Mil this year..

Good for him. Former ND guy, who is one of the best in the game, cashing in.

I can guarantee Zeke is happy about this extension.    Dak too.   He's the best guard in football.

I remember 10 years ago when we paid Dockery 56 million and he was worth about 5.

I’d rather NOT remember that! If you’re going to pay, pay for someone who can actually PLAY!

That's quite a contract for a guard.  That has to be right up there with the highest paid in the NFL at that position.

Yeah. And I think the results could be appropriate.

Marv made none of the decisions on who was signed to contracts.

...in his defense, he reverted to the age old philosophy of "building from the ball out".......think "The Hogs" and Deadskins' OL dominance......just don't know the quality of the beef until you start grillin'.......

I remember when people here scoffed at those who wanted to 'waste a pick' on a guard when David Decastro was drafted.  Ask Leveon Bell how that draft pick worked out.

DD is a great G.  But I’d argued that having a HOF qb and wr are major factors as well.  A couple years ago, there were 2 top 10 pick Gs who were giant busts (Womack and The guy the Pats traded Jones for).

Gs are not that hard to find if you have the other pieces in place. Martin also is on another level.

You mean like when we gave dockery 7m as a thought to be very good but not ELITE guy?

Thing is cap that year was 109m (leaving 7 at 6.5%).... this comes in shy of 8% still at 14m per year, and keeps the best in the league...Not that crazy. Just crazy how the cap exploded

There are 9 guards making 10 or more million now that this extension is in. That's directly a product in my mind of interior pass rushers rising to prominence and the lack of good O-line play due to changes in the college game.

Guards used to be big maulers who didn't need to be dominant interior pass protectors. It was traditionally thought to be a fairly replaceable position. It used to be you could reliably get high-end starters in the 2nd and 3rd round to come in at a high percentage. Now that's not the case, the bust rates are higher on high picks and the importance of the position is higher.
