SCOTUS Rules Federal Ban on Sports Betting Unconstitutional

Recommended Posts

Hey, I'm all for it.

I remember years ago wanting to make a wager on a game I was sure the Bills were going to win (2011 opener vs the Chiefs), and was going to ask someone visiting Atlantic City to make a wager for me. I would learn that "It's illegal there so it won't hurt the bookies' bottom line"

That's really the only benefit to it now. Sport Gambling was allowed in Vegas and Delaware, so if there was collusion in the digital age it was going to happen anyway. Now, with online sports books that seem impossible to shut down and a thriving Fantasy Football model that is pretty much gambling anyway, what was there left to regulate?

Can this Trump administration do wrong?

MAGA indeed!

It seems fitting, considering his casinos?

Hey, why does Trump put his name on all his casinos?

So that banks know which ones to repossess!

Since the pro sports leagues were on the wrong side of this case, it will be interesting to see how they try to weasel their way back into the deal when States define their sports betting policies.  They'll probably try to work in a bogus "rights" fee into the deal.

Anyway, those Bengals/Browns games just go a Hell of a lot more interesting.

The states will bed the leagues quickly because revenue will be yuge for both, bigly even.

It will create another case of hypocrisy for the league and the government

Why do you say that? Just curious?

In areas where gambling revenue increases for local and state gov't, foreclosures and bankruptcies increase. They are directly tied to addictive gambling situations.

Most people who follow gambling know this and there are many studies that confirm this fact. The key is being able to budget your gambling entertainment spending. For many addictive type human personalities that is very hard to do.

Are there any links you can provide showing that availability to "gambling" results in an increased rate of foreclosure? Was the real estate crash of 2008 attributable to gambling or just Americans over-extending themselves? (i.e. buying a house that was beyond their means).

Nevada shuts the pro leagues out.  The other states need to do the same.

And the revenues won't be huge if the lines are negatively impacted by the vigs that bookies have to pay the state and the league's.

Bettors who enjoy the liberalized betting laws will shop for the best lines and will take their business off-shore.

The pro leagues need to check their greed and play the long game.

Atlantic City got what it needed. May be too late, but the city needed a jolt and this is a help.

Why?  Who would need to travel to that dump just to lay a sports bet?

How would the league(s) get money?
