Our hearts are infinite friend. We truly have the capacity to care about everything.  I can care about the poor, and the environment, and Johnny Manziel.  My heart hasn't exploded yet.  Give it a try.

I give it a try on Sunday at church, throughout the week in my community, I volunteer, I do as much as I can with the little time I have between work and raising two children.

So again, stop this nonsense over a message board. You are not proving anything or making me feel any different about someone who utterly refuses to take care of them selves.

Yeah, I saw that after I posted.

I know lamotrigine is well-tolerated (I take it), but hell if that "fatal skin rash" thing doesn't scare the hell out of me.  "It's well-tolerated...there's just a very small minority of people whose skin falls off and they die, but most people are perfectly okay."  Imagine saying anything like that about air bags or romaine lettuce.

There's lots of common, well-tolerated meds that can cause SJS.  Like penicillin .

And as busy as you are, you still have time to tell us how much you don't care that another human being is suffering.  Bless your heart. Make sure you tell your congregation.

Nah we are going to disband because not everyone's heart bleeds for Manziel.

he was diagnosed bi-polar and there is very serious medications involved with that.

So before everyone starts assuming he ate a bunch of oxycotins he may actually had a real prescription issue.

Lets not just jump in and assume.. Wait for the facts, if there are any new ones besides what has been reported.

There is more gossip going on here then actual facts right now

...sad that he and his parents are estranged......even though I don't like him as a football player, kid obviously needs help.....

I can't actually care about Johnny Manziel right now, I'm busy fretting over a Brazilian child I don't know with Zika-related microcephaly, then I'm penciled in to empathize with a Swiss car accident victim at 5:30; a resident of Peoria, IL who had their bicycle stolen at 5:40; and a starving Rwandan child at 5:50.

I think the next time I'm free is around 7:30 tonight.  Is it okay if I empathize with Johnny then?

You should log into thirdworld.com/messageboard and just tell them all you're too busy to care.

...that may be a bit misguided......third world folks have very little or any resources, but somehow DO make an effort to help themselves....it is a matter of life and death....think Johnny worries about clean drinking water or food??....NFL's Chris Long has dug 33 clean water wells in East Africa...in Texas, they drill for OIL.......his family has AMPLE resources to get him the help he needs......but estranged parents have turned away and it was not only to recently he (allegedly) sought help...

You're a very good soul.  It's humbling to see people such as you in the world.  In fact, I'm a little down on my luck right now.  I have no health insurance and I have bank-a-citis.  It's not that I need a "fix", it's actually necessary for me to live.  I would be forever in your honor if you could donate $10,000 to help ease my bank-a-citis.

I know you are a good human.  If you don't have that much you could sign up for several credit cards and do a cash advance on them.  PM me and I will give you the details.  I love all humans and I will most certainly pay you back while at the same time doubling what you've contributed by giving to rich people with all of the means and resources in the world to help themselves but somehow can't by way of donation.   Looking forward to hearing from you!!

It can take years to find the right combination of medications to treat bipolar and, as Manziel said, it was a reaction to lithium.  That's not unheard of.

He obviously has to own what's he's done, but it's threads like this which prove the vast majority of people have no idea what major mental illness can do to a person, especially if it's not diagnosed and left untreated.

I hope that kid finds the right dosage(s) of medication and finds his way back to the NFL. But if he doesn't QB another team, that he lives as normal a life as possible.

Yes but on previous stories when there were facts he dodged and denied them so in this case it is appropriate.

For the most part, you hit the nail on the head.  I think most people realize what you are saying.  I know one person that is bipolar and one person that has schizophrenia.

I think the problem is that JM has the resources to be properly treated, has acknowledged that he has an issue, yet he still puts himself in bad situations.  He should not put himself in positions where he can slide downhill.  He should have the support, given his resources, to make sure that his medication regimen is on an even keel before doing activities that would be detrimental to his condition.  If he still has a desire to put himself in such a situation he should have people around him to keep watch on him.  I'm saying this because it doesn't look good that he is out at concerts or parties given his condition.

- an alcoholic shouldn't go to a bar (at least not one that is not yet stable and secure)

-  a sexaholic should't go to a strip club

- a person with a gambling addiction shouldn't go to a casino

- etc...

My bipolar friend had insufficient resources and despite any help I could provide has constantly found nothing but trouble while also constantly putting herself in bad situations.

My schizophrenic friend had some trouble early on but pulled himself up tremendously, got the help he needed and stuck to it.  He had less of a support group than my bi-polar friend.  The difference being, my schizophrenic friend did not put himself in bad situations like my bi-polar friend continually does.  Maybe this example is a non-sequitur, but my point is that when someone has the means to help themselves, especially with plenty of resources around them, and they don't, the sympathy level nose dives.

If you could work in some time for American minorities born in the 90s who have had to deal with a lifetime of oppression they've heard about, then post about how deep your empathy is, we would realize what a good person you are.
