Bills Draft Thoughts

Like everyone else I am ready for the draft and wish it was here yesterday. After the long process we have went through here are some modest predictions of what I think will happen:

-Buffalo will trade up but they will keep their 22nd overall pick. From what I have read the 2nd and 3rd rounds have a ton of potential and teams value those picks more at this point then lower 1st round picks.

-Buffalo will end up somewhere between 5-7 and draft either Rosen or Allen. The smokescreens for both QBs makes it hard for me to pick one I would say Allen slightly more. I think the Bills really want Darnold but that isn't happening.

-At 22 the Bills will draft a LB like Van Esche or Rashaad Evans. The D line and secondary need some depth but have some good to strong starters, if they can get a true blueblood in the middle at LB I think the defense can be potentially Top 10 worth and I also think McBeane knows this. I also think Beane knows they really need to find a starter at LB more then any other hole after QB and his 2nd 1st offers his best chance at filling it.

-I think in the 2nd round the Bills will draft a WR like Anthony Miller or James Washington.

-The rest of the draft will be devoted basically to OL, DL, & LB to hopefully find some good depth off the bench

Syracuse, NY native Buffalo Bills President Russ Brandon will be sitting at the Buffalo Bills draft table for the 2018 NFL draft.

Why?

Because Syracuse, NY native Buffalo Bills President Russ Brandon wants to sell Buffalo Bills NFL jerseys, publicity, and tickets to games.  And that's all that Syracuse, NY native Russ Brandon wants out of the 2018 NFL draft.  Money.  Long term, nothing.

Syracuse, NY cynics like me know this.

The Bills need to draft two solid offensive linemen.  Yes, they really need a top flight linebacker.  Then there's wide receiver and another corner back.  All this dictates, to me, that you don't break the bank for a quarterback.  There are some decent QB prospects to be had in the second round.  And I'm not convinced the Patriots won't grab one of them, especially Lauletta, early on.

You including those at Binghamton U. in that equation?

They should be... Binghamton U is still in the right Zip to be counted.

I suspect that Russ Brandon, as well as Terry and Kim Pegula will not insert themselves into the draft.  They are most likely present just to be in the loop and understand what is taking place.  Also, Russ and Terry will probably speak with the first round draft choice(s) by phone after selection, as is customary.  Beane, McDermott, and their football operations staff will be calling the shots, I believe.

Excellent post. This is exactly what I've thought would happen as well. I do expect one later pick to be used on a RB as well. WR wise Pettis is one to watch as well imo.

Good post!  I would be happy with this outcome.  I was all for LVE over Evans just because LVE ran the defense in college.  Then I happened to read the SI article on the National Championship game last night and realized Evans called the signals for the Alabama  Defense the last half of the year after Shaun Dion Hamilton went down with a shattered knee-cap.  I think Evans is more athletic than LVE without the neck injury concerns.

I don't think trading a 2nd and a 3rd to move up somewhere around 5-7 in the 1st is breaking the bank. You still end up with two 1sts, a 2nd, and 3rd plus the rest of of your draft. This team really needs to take a shot at a QB and even after doing that you can at least hopefully plug two holes. Every team has holes every season just some years they are smaller then others you can't let your entire draft strategy change because of two retirements. In my belief they are betting with Groy, Bodine, Dawkins, Ducasse/Miller they have enough to draft lineman later on plus offseason cuts to be OK up front. It won't be the strength we've seen the last bunch of years but it won't be a tire fire. That is what I think the Bills see, your strategy isn't wrong either just different way to address needs.

Thanks. I think they need to draft IF possible (assuming they have the pick) Evans or LVE at 22. I personally prefer LVE because his potential seems to just be opening, but Evans may be a better day 1 starter. Malik Jefferson from Texas is also intriguing but not to the level of those two.

i will add my drafts thoughts

-- i do think we will trade up but hoping we stay at 12 and draft whatever QB is still there..

-- If we stay at 12 then i am hoping we trade 22 and move down-- great scenario would be to trade with Giants for the 2nd rd pick and there 2 3rd round picks

-- we need a QB, WR(maybe 2 of them) LB, OG C, DT -- if we trade up- we may not get to address all our needs

--  hoping we dont have to use next years #1 or #2 because if we suck this year then that will be a high pick

--  I would draft Darnold in top 5 -- i would see if rosen and Mayfield drop to somewhere between 6 and 11-- i would draft Allen at 12 and Jackson at 22 and leave any other QB for end of 2nd round

-- I dont think Russ Brandon will have any input-- dont think McDermott will allow it. McDermott is not a foo-foo kind of guy and knows he needs quality players for the process-- McDermott also knows that if we are to sell tickets then winning is the best scenario to do that

-- I do know whoever our QB is-- people wont be happy

-- and as i was doing my drafts on first-pick.com-- i did pick mostly seniors as McDermott loved those guys last year

I wonder if the fact that we (unless I am mistaken) drafted all seniors last year plays into this QB debate? Of the "big 4" only Mayfield and Allen (RS) are seniors.

Seems a reasonable and logical approach that kids who start for 3 or 4 yrs. in college transition better and quicker to the NFL game versus one and two year starters.

Surely somewhere on the great big wide internet that info is available. I'm too lazy to look.

Right on Bills brother.  I agree with all this
