slightly ... less enthusiastic about daboll. Within the context of the entire conversation, you'd almost place Dilfer's considered opinion of Daboll as closer to the "this guy doesn't know what he's talking about" category.

Yeah, sounds like he doesn't know how Daboll would handle Rosen. Could be a good match or a really really bad match.

If Daboll needs a guy to "grow the offense with him," as Trent says, then Darnold, Mayfield, and Rudolph seem like the best first round fits.

But if Rosen is, as reported, the kind of guy who asks questions, doesn't accept status quo, and wants to build upon the playbook wouldn't that be a great match?

every time I hear how Lamar Jackson would need an offense built around him I think of how the Bills have a blank slate on offense, with almost no penciled in starters

There is no "system" yet, so there's nothing to disrupt

we don't have anyone who can develop a QB.  they better go for the sure thing.  if they draft a "project QB" and think they will get better then they are dumb

It was pretty tough to hear Dilfer express skepticism in the Bills' ability to develop a QB.

Maybe. That's where the uncertainty lies. If the coach and QB don't mesh well, it'll be a rocky road.

IMO, take the best QB and if he doesn't work well with your OC, then find a new OC.

The one area where I disagree with Dilfer is about the coaching environment. I say that because I do think the Bills' coaching situation is going to be stable for the foreseeable future. I wouldn't say that about the Jets at all. Or the Browns or Broncos. Dilfer's assessment is based on who is currently in these places, and he singles out Jeremy Bates in NY. Will Bates be in NY next year if the Jets have a losing record in 2018? I doubt it, unless he's promoted to HC.

Mike Maccagnan and Todd Bowles are tied together with both receiving recent extensions. Hard to see them getting fired after this year after taking a rookie QB at #3. Guess we'll see though.

If they go 5-11, things will change. Someone will be fired, that's for sure.

I'm no so sure. No one expects them to contend this season.  They have quite a bit of work to do and they have sacrificed quite a bit to get to #3 by giving up three 2nd round picks.  I think that buys them some time.

Todd Bowles is hanging by a thread, make no mistake.

When I hear that I think of Shanny making an offense that RGIII excelled in as a rookie yet once he got back from injury he couldn't produce again. I'm sorry but if Lamar is another Vick, RG III or Watson  insert your favorite RPO QB here we're in trouble as those offenses eventually fail as their QB ends up injured and then when you try to protect them in the pocket they fail because they can't play a traditional offense.

I'm not advocating it, but every time I hear someone on NFL Radio or WGR talk about how you would have to totally build an offense around Jackson I just get this strange feeling, given the fact that the Bills basically have no offense in place right now. It's a blank slate at most positions.
