ESPN says we overpaid for Star

They just paid a DT big money.

That is Star's run stop,  how did his teammates do? All that says is Star didn't make plays in the run game. Says nothing about occupying blockers.

10 million a year to occupy blockers? That's what makes him worth the money? Being a big body? Not making plays... gotcha

What about his effect on Kyle and vice versa?

It might be a great pairing for a year or two.

Who cares?  They also said the Bills overpaid for Poyer last year, as 4mer alluded to.  And at the least he'll be far better than what they had at the position last year, and that's the point of FA: getting better.

We almost certainly overpaid- which isn’t a big deal as long as he steps up.

for those citing familiarity- that’s not ALWAYS a pro. If they like the guy they may be too quick to excuse issues and err on trusting the best season. It can break all kinds of ways.

You can overpay and still be a good move though. Don’t take every opinion out there quite so personally and your day will be much nicer

i agree with this, but was happy that he took more of a backloaded deal.  I think he got more for being able to do that and as faith that last year was a fluke.

I could see this biting us in the ass, but with the money we will have after this year, I don't know how much I care

Did we overpay: Yes.  From any regular analysis.

That said: McD and Bean know him.  Perhaps he was a poor fit in Carolina for whatever reason.  Perhaps having Williams and whomever they draft will "free" him up.  He no longer needs to be "the" DT.

He wasn’t the guy there

I say we overpaid. But I'm fine with that because no one knows him better than McDermott and Beane.

They also knew Tolbert was a washed up overweight RB last year, and they brought him in.  It didn't make him good...it just made them look stupid.

The Bills making the playoffs say "hi."

Tolbert was the reason the Bills made it to the playoffs? :o

No.  Just saying they didn't look stupid, much less because of who their backup RB was.

We’ve been saying we overpaid since we signed him.  Common knowledge

But not Star...

We definitely did for a one dimensional DT.  Personally, I wanted a more versatile DT but if he upgrades the run defense, I’m fine with.  Of course, I wish they just found a way to reach Dareus.

I don't put a lot of stock in what ESPN says. They're grading based on sacks. Anybody that knows anything knows that that isn't his specialty. If our run D improves, then I say he's worth it.

What about the team that didn't re-sign him?

From everything I read they did try to re-sign him. Bills just beat their offer.

They're right. Lotulelei is barely an upgrade over Adolphus Washington. Now we're stuck with him for 5 years and we could probably gotten him for less than half of what we're paying. I like nothing about this signing at all. I think he's basically a solid backup.

How do you know they're grading based soley on sacks or did you just make that up? Face it. They overpaid him. He's just not very good.

I’m happy Star is on the team.

the defensive line is the strongest part of the team with Him, Kyle, Hughes, Shaq, and Trent Murphy.

I’m more excited to see Trent play. Big dude who plays fast.

at any rate, the line is going to have a solid rotation.

What was more important, a good #2 RB or a washed up RB acting as your #2 with alleged "leadership" skills?
